I phoned Foundry Friday lunch time to ask for some shields, they said they'd check if they were available. Marcus phoned back within 5 minutes thinking they were in a separate mould and as soon as he found them he'd cast them for me. They're not on the website as they are cast top as a special order.

Today, Saturday, they turned up in the post, exactly what I wanted, and I even got two complimentary models to boot.

Hi Giles nice to hear that and I am happy for you however I 've had a somehow unsatisfactory experience with them recently: I contacted them by mail asking for some cavalry codes of their nice WSS /Marlburian range that do not appear on their website catalogue any more; I needed them to compete / expand some units. A kind lady contacted me after a few days asking me for some cat. Numbers and pictures of the figures to help them search the mounds… which I gladly did. She promised to get back to me and despite a couple more mails I sent to solicit a reply, I never heard from her anymore. That was about one and a half month ago… I am quite unhappy for that as I was prepared to buy a few packs of the missing codes at their current price which is frankly speaking quite out of the market taking into account current prices for recently produced figures. These are still nice figures of course. I really don't understand why if they really could not licaltw the missing moulds ( that seems to be quite strange actually) they did not answer and tell me this openly.. I have been a customer of Foundry for more than 30 years and always until now I've been happy with their service and accepted their high prices…

Mmm had a similar experience in relation to their war of 1812 range. Sent them a copy of the codes with photos that they sent me a couple of years ago.

I must say that I have always had great service from Foundry

They once sent me some wrong packs – not only did they promptly send the right ones and told me to keep the others

Foundry were helpful when I asked about obtaining some replacement shields for some 28mm Romans, but the quoted £10.00 GBP for 12 shields was fairly eye- watering. (As a comparison, Gripping Beast do packs of 12 shields for £2.00 GBP).

In the event, I was lucky enough to find 20 Foundry shields for £8.00 GBP on that well- known auction website.

I'd also have been tempted with a 'buy 4, get 1 free' deal, but not their current 'buy 8, get 2 free', or 'buy 16, get 6' free' deals.

A final point is their frustrating packaging of command packs, meaning you can't get a ratio of one centurion/ one optio/ one standard bearer/ one musician even if you buy several packs, and end up with (expensive) unused figures.

I can only speak personally, but I'm put off having to buy two different command packs at £12.00 GBP each, giving a very odd total of seven standard bearers; five centurions, and only 2 musicians.

Always have had an excellent service from Diane as well as from Marcus.
Just to illustrate. I wanted just two copies of a set that hadn't been on their website for probably years now (still isn't I think) and asked them if they could include it in my pre- order for Crisis. Diane told me Marcus would have to locate the mould and would cast them up if possible. And yes, I'm happy as a lark with my two Indian Dooly sets!
