I took the opportunity to post a couple of games on the Slammers website. A Piper at the gates was the game I played with Henry Hyde. At the time, of course, he was my editor at Miniature Wargames and – as he was the open minded chap he was (and is) – I invited him to a bash in the studio I have in the garden. I wrote a piece for MW which Henry published in issue 401 which had pictures and maps and so forth and include in the update is a PDF of the original article – I spoke to the current editor and he said that was okay…
Although the scenario I wrote for the game was particular to the genre, under the skin, an all-too-familiar modern 'asymmetrical warfare' type of encounter. This is a scenario is based around Drake's books – specifically the story Paying the Piper. The second game – A bad day for the New Ukrainian Army link – was played on the same scenery but with different forces. Ahhh: the joys of a table I can leave up and not have to clear the scenery away. My mates Jim and Roger came over and we had a fun afternoon with lunch at the local cafe (thanks Roger!).
Finally, I've posted the text of an article I wrote for Henry when I restarted the Fantasy Facts column about four years ago in Miniaure Wargames – this is an introduction to the 'Slammerverse' called From Vietnam and Cambodia to Nieuw Friesland . I figure it might prove useful to those who don't know what all this is about… Have fun: I did! John Treadaway www.hammers-slammers.com |

Gosh – that was "More Slammers games…" Damm apostrophes. It was late and… well, you know… John T |

Thanks all. @bakerboy No the monorail is scratched from sheet styrene and some repurposed resin items from Ainsty. And a railway train station raised up on Lego. There should be other shots of it in the gallery. John T |

I was about to broadside you for the apostrophe… ;) Proof even John Treadaway is human! … or IS he…?

It's a trap! The old apostrophe as bait trick! |

Great looking models as always !!!!! |

Human? Only barely. It was a classic: I'd finished my day editing articles for MW issue 405 and was off to Warfare in Reading* in the morning and thought "I know, I can just get that done in a couple of hours before I hit the hay…". And, of course, one can edit the text after posting (as I did) but you can't edit the blasted title. Never mind… John T * where I am now. Well, actually, I'm at the Premier Inn up the road before going back tomorrow but you know what I mean… |

Very nice again John :) I see you have some new buildings very nice :) Cheers Matt |

Yes Matt I keep adding to the collection. Scenery is for me (as I know it is for you, as well) such a fundamental part of any game but, particularly with a Slammers game where you have to close down those sight lines! I do have very fond memories of us both at Salute 2013 with that (scale) kilometre long table and being able to fire the entire length!
