Posted this to the 6mm wargaming Facebook group yesterday, but for those who aren't over there, here's a photo-tutorial on how to make 6mm cornfields cheaply and easily. When finished, they look excellent on the tabletop! I spent a couple years trying to figure out a good method for representing tiny cornfields.

That's pretty corny!

Very nifty.

Minor question: i thought corn was not grown in rows until tractors came along. During the ACW corn was grown more in "clumps." Or am I off base here?

Probably off base but I can't be sure. Fields needed to be plowed each year and plowing leads to crops being planted in rows ever since the invention of the plow.

You rock!

Now show me how to do that in 1/1200 scale. :-)

The McCormick Reaper entered mass production in 1847. It encouraged large monoculture fields like these.

Really great idea!

Are the stripey-looking cornfields really just defined by green/tan colors? In the photos, the tan rows look distinctly taller, like the green areas were trimmed or forced apart. Is that just an optical illusion on film?
