Posted this to the 6mm wargaming Facebook group yesterday, but for those who aren't over there, here's a photo-tutorial on how to make 6mm cornfields cheaply and easily. When finished, they look excellent on the tabletop! I spent a couple years trying to figure out a good method for representing tiny cornfields. 6mmacw.com/cornfields.html

Very nifty. Minor question: i thought corn was not grown in rows until tractors came along. During the ACW corn was grown more in "clumps." Or am I off base here? |

Probably off base but I can't be sure. Fields needed to be plowed each year and plowing leads to crops being planted in rows ever since the invention of the plow. |

The McCormick Reaper entered mass production in 1847. It encouraged large monoculture fields like these. |

Are the stripey-looking cornfields really just defined by green/tan colors? In the photos, the tan rows look distinctly taller, like the green areas were trimmed or forced apart. Is that just an optical illusion on film? - Ix |
