Does anyone know this book? Thoughts? "Warfare in the Ancient Near East to 1600 BC: Holy Warriors at the Dawn of History." By William J. Hamblin. |

Very good, soundly scholarly, readable introduction to the period by an academic who's also a (former, at least) wargamer. |

I picked it up a couple of years ago,and started it,but got sidetracked. Initial impression, densely detailed documentation, which is good, but may be a bit of hard slogging unless you're really into this period. There's a review here: link |

Hello Donald – I got it a few years ago when I was going to do some battles in the time period. It is as the two posters above say. It is dense reading at times but I really enjoyed it. |

I enjoyed reading it a lot. It's a pity it doesn't extend to the Late Bronze Period, as I am painting some Egyptians and Canaanites for my 14th Century (BC) project. Dense, documented, well organized. If you like the period, it's well worth a reading. Enric. |
