Looks like someone went back in time to remove it….. i was thinking forward to peoples thoughts on the scale of 38mm and the problems mixing own terrain etc… but its gone….?

MacrossMartin15 Nov 2016 5:53 a.m. PST

Are you talking about the Warlord range? I think there was a discussion on their forum about the size; I think someone from Warlord stated the minis are in fact the same size as their other ranges, but I could be wrong.

If they ARE 38mm, they're even less attractive as a range. I can't see why they'd do that? Just to make them incompatible with earlier offerings by other companies? I honestly hope that's not the intent.

Not trying to stir anything here; as I said, I think Warlord have clarified the Who range is same size as Bolt Action, Gates, et al.

It's gone and I respect whatever Bill's reason was so will not discuss it again.

If it was the Warlord – DWMG topic, its been rightly nuked since it was apparently an unwarranted attack with nothing to back it up.

As for the daleks being 38mm, where did that rumour come from?

From the blog above, the 10th doctor appears to be 33mm tall but appears to be the tallest of the three figures.

soulman15 Nov 2016 8:20 a.m. PST

is the doctor who website… and today they have shown the new cyberman…

On the above website, under the figure range it says the size is 38mm… that i thnk this before the plastic base.. have a look at the cyberman link at the bottom of the website page and let me know… For some reason all Dr Who updates are on this website and not on warlords.. until i see the figure range against 28-32mm i cannot say if i buy into it..

Earl of the North15 Nov 2016 8:29 a.m. PST

Well that is weird, especially since some of the figures have been measured as less than that already…..so in the case of the first doctor and companion set none of the figures match up to the supposed approx height.

Also they have apparently the same approx height for the Silence and Judoons who are both taller than humans so I'm stumped…..is the present doctor really 38mm (including base) compared to the the 10th who is 33mm?

Warlord games main website makes no mention of the figure size as far as I can see.

GonerGonerGoner15 Nov 2016 8:37 a.m. PST

I still can't believe they're doing monopose daleks. Such a missed opportunity.

Vigilant15 Nov 2016 9:28 a.m. PST

12th Dr is 38mm tall from foot to top of head, 10th is 36mm, Wild is 35mm and the companions are 32mm – I've just measured them. This makes them taller than most 28mm figures including Warlord's own having just done a quick side by side comparison with some of the figures on my painting table. They are pretty close to the Crooked Dice range though, so their "not" UNIT troops will have no trouble mixing with the Who range.

David Manley15 Nov 2016 11:46 a.m. PST

Well he is a larger than life character so I can see why they may have given him leg extensions:)

Earl of the North15 Nov 2016 1:41 p.m. PST

It seems a strange choice considering how easily they could have tied Dr Who into all of the historical ranges (and probably Beyond the Gates of Antares) to produce this range in a different size…..it also seems strange to me that the main website doesn't mention they are not 28mm.

On a sidenote the Judoons are indeed human sized.

Anyway it seems that aside from the possibility of using some of the plastics as conversion fodder I'll probably not be buying any of these. Which is sad really.

Mirosav15 Nov 2016 7:37 p.m. PST

One of the prime attractions of a Doctor Who game is the ability to set scenarios in any time period and use whatever WWII, medieval, scifi, etc. miniatures you have along with the Doctor and assorted companions and villains. The odd choice by Warlord to make theirs an oddly large scale (as Vigilant details above) kills this. It also removes any reason to buy the Doctor sets released so far, no matter how well they are sculpted (and they are lacking in that department as well). I hope the aliens are better, there is more scale flexibility there.

Huscarle16 Nov 2016 10:54 a.m. PST

I would have thought that there were far more opportunities with the earlier doctors and their opponents, than the current ones being released.
I'm with Mirosav, the sculpting just doesn't do anything for me. I must admit that I really liked the Crooked Dice Jon Pertwee figure, but sadly he has disappeared into the time vortex.

soulman16 Nov 2016 10:57 a.m. PST

Well said Mirosav…I really wanted a ww2 setting with germans working with some daleks in the background… would tie in well with weird war setting. I have to see the figures in person, but so far the large scale has killed it dead for me… i use there rules maybe with my plastic Ipod daleks and my painted GW ones…..

soulman16 Nov 2016 10:59 a.m. PST

Did you see the cyberman…. one piece but the left arm…!!!

willlucv17 Nov 2016 12:07 a.m. PST

It might be that Warlord were required by the terms of their license to make their figures a different size. I believe this is why Games Workshop's Lord of the Rings range were rather smaller than their mainstream stuff.

My Heresy not Who's will be pitted against the future warriors of the Rogue Trader universe, eighties 40k and Who have always been synonymous in my eyes, along with Torquemada and ABC Warriors (foundry).

soulman18 Nov 2016 9:14 a.m. PST

I just found the doctor who into the time vortex facebook group and there was a picture of a GOA Ghar next to a Judoon and boy its big…same size, that`s not fitting into any of my figure scale. Even that the rules are still in design stage.. If the BBC wanted this scale and scared off the 28 mm not who stuff from other companies that boy the BBC have killed the doctor who wargame scene in 28mm scale. And that`s when doctor who will not be back on the small screen until 2018. Bloody Bleeped text as i would have brought into the starter set. I know project Z was a little ruleset just to sell figures.. but i hate for warlord to have a second game to be….weak….. My I-Pod daleks are not even Judoon scale…!!! as the dragons say…"I`m out"……

willlucv18 Nov 2016 1:38 p.m. PST

Actually the figures look pretty good to me. They might be 1/48 scale 37mm or thereabouts. They're quite slender and non heroically proportioned, unlike most of Warlord's output.

I've learnt from bitter experience not to wait when there's stuff available that I want.

FincasKhalmoril22 Nov 2016 3:36 p.m. PST

@ Soulman: what do you mean with i-pod daleks? Is there a range available?

I use the dr. Who magazine plastic daleks for 28mm (very poor quality) and the dr. Who risk daleks for 15mm (quite okay).

soulman24 Nov 2016 3:22 a.m. PST

I pods daleks are indeed from the dr who mag a few years ago, orange ones….

BrianH24 Nov 2016 1:18 p.m. PST

There are also the 28mm Daleks from Black Tree (formerly Harlequin). I am also disappointed in the out of scale Warlord releases and am glad I have most of what I need already to play Doctor Who the Miniatures Game (DWMG) in 28mm from Black Tree, Heresy, Crooked Dice, Micro Universe and other companies.
