Does anyone know what type of cannon the legion had? I know it was a mix of cannon, Howitzers and mortars, but were they of native US make or French or something else? Thanks in advance. |

According to Campaign 256 Fallen Timbers their were 16 guns in four companies, specially made 2.75 and 2.85 "King" howitzers that were transportable on horseback because of the poor roads. They had 50lb barrels and 75-150lb carriages that were carried on horseback on special saddles. They could be used as field artillery, howitzers or mortars, firing ball, shell or canister. They had a crew of 1 officer, 2 gunners and 6 soldiers per gun. |

As Glengarry mentioned, the Legion used mostly King's Howitzers. But, there were also a pair of 6 pounders present. Not certain if they were of French or British design/influence. A couple of articles on the King's: gunneyg.info/html/KHp1.htm gunneyg.info/html/KHp8.htm |

Given the time frame, they wouldn't have been French, as France was still on the 4-8-12 pattern for field artillery. Possibly (but not likely) left over 6-pdr Grasshoppers. |
