Write up, here: link I like them, they play well….just not enough to supplant my "go-to" set. |

They Couldn't Hit An Elephant, by far. |

Thanks, I usually do brigade stands using VnB to allow for the larger engagements. |

Ah, I've done Brandy Station with TCHAE and have an Antietam game in the works using them. |

Lovely stuff. We've played two games of Pickett's Charge so far, the Antietam scenario from the rules, and the initial assault around Shiloh Church. Absoloutely love them. My group long since turned their back on TCHAE (though I love them too) to go with RF&F, but safe to say Pickett's Charge are now the favourite. Love the friction, which is enough to drive players crazy with the frustration of command and control. Turns seem to play very smoothly and the playsheets are excellent. Plays like the action in a Cozzens book reads. No higher recommendation from me than that. :-) |

Turn their backs on The Elephant? Gah, what kind of friends are those? :-) Since I ran across IABSM about 4.5 years ago, I have gone off IGOUGO rules for the most part, preferring now the draw of a card rather than the same old. |

Wally and JT8, As someone who played a lot of ACW in the late '80s-early '90s (Johnny Reb 2) AND a big TFL fan, it hurts me to say this. However, Elephant never quite did it for me either. Something about it never felt quite 'right' for an ACW battle. From reading the rules, it feels like Pickett's Charge might hit the sweet spot a little bit better. I need to paint up some staff figures, and then we will have a test game to see. BWW PS: If you guys like, we could continue this conversation over at the TFL Forum. |

Sure, where ever you want. I use the same handle over there. |

John, I'm the fellow who mentioned the FD rule on your thread over there. |

Ah, ok. So I'll start a thread on TCHAE, I'm interested in your take. |

We,ve now played 3 games. Really enjoyed them. I like the command and control. Having civil wargamed now for almost 50 years I've tried nearly every set . Longstreet is our go to set , along with both variants of Fire and Fury . I know when we've found a good set when our guys complain that their unsupported , un co-ordinated charges into the front of fresh regiments and batteries inevitably fail. ! Who would have thought of that result? |
