Painting up the Volunteer Battalion of Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada. Is this a great name or what! After reading "Redcoated Ploughboys" its become one of my must have units.

My question is did the battalion carry colors? I know both Flags of War and Vaunbanner graphics makes a set of colors for them. But was this a after the war or did they carry it in 1814? If there is no period documentation then I would be curious about speculation or just plain opinions.

Again, thank you for the help!

You should check Rene Chartrand's excellent book on the uniforms and equipment of the Crown forces involved in the War of 1812. I am not at home right now, and I cannot recall the exact title, but I believe it begins with "A Scarlet Coat," published a few years ago.

I do not remember whether the Incorporated Militia of U.C. had colors, but even if they did, they may not have carried them in the field, as they were primarily employed as light infantry. What I do remember is that their equivalents, the Select Embodied Militia battalions of Lower Canada, never received their colors until after the War of 1812 ended.

The answer is Yes and No

These are illustrations of the Colours granted to the Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada in 1814 after the fighting had ended so were not carried in action Don't let that stop you in adding them to your unit as the "IMUC" certainly deserve them earlier.

I agree with Toronto48 except that the colours were presented to the IMUC on 12 April, 1822. from Ploughboys.

For what it is worth I have committed historical heresy by giving my IMUC battalion a set of colours.

Thank you for the input. I have to agree, they deserve a set of colors.
