I hosted this game a while back and I thought I would share them. My apologies if my uniforms or flags offend. Here is the flickr link. link |

Very nice. Great table and figures. And plenty of photos! (I was amused to see the single figure mounted British officer on the opposite side of the river to his troops and the battle. Nothing really changes!) |

How could your uniforms or flags offend? Those are pretty darn impressive. |

At first I was expecting to see the Gadsden flag, which has taken a hit these days, or some of those flags with offensive (but funny) slogans I have seen. But I think he means the fact that the Patriots were even flying flags. :) Very nice table, photos, figures and FLAGS! |

One of my regiments carry a stars and stripes flag. Some here criticize the use of stars and stripes flags. I don't disagree. From what I have read the first of those flags was probably just after the war. I guess I had to have just one. Not sure if the British carried their colors in this battle. They were chasing the Americans, no time to mess with flags. The American uniforms are probably too nice. Should have had more hunting shirts and civilian clothing. But that look is represented in the two militia regiments. I'm happy with them. I do actually get to play in some of my games. The first time I played Guilford Courthouse, I was the only one playing the Americans. I was exhausted afterwards. Same thing with Weitzel's Mill. But for Bennington I was expecting maybe five people and 12 players showed up! I usually end up commanding the last reinforcements that come on the table. I just know too much to play. I enjoy watching my creations and seeing what players do with them. |

Excellent to see Hubbardton being replayed; the American rearguard was composed of some of the best troops available, whilst the Crown forces, though smaller, were their elite. Historically, I've indicated what was worn/carried in the way of uniforms/flags; the famous "Bennington flag" is a 19th Century item, although it is thought that a home-made flag (made from a soldier's shirt and a woman's petticoat) flew over Fort Stanwix. Personally, i don't have a big issue with the Bennington, Betsy Ross, Cowpens flags; they are a-historical, but it gives spectators a focal point. Not sure if the British carried their colors in this battle. They were chasing the Americans, no time to mess with flags. All of the Crown units (British, or German) at Hubbardton were flank-type units and did not carry colours anyway; the Loyalist corps in Burgoyne's army were never issued any. Only the 9th Foot and the German musketeer battalions are known for certain to have carried flags on this campaign. Just a small point, but the King's Colour (Union flag) was always carried on the right, and the Regimental Colour (plain flag) on the left; apart from the Foot Guards, who did it the other way around (being the Guards!). The American uniforms are probably too nice. Should have had more hunting shirts and civilian clothing. It's possible that re-enlistees might have been wearing their 1776 uniforms; otherwise, there's no record of the troops at Ticonderoga receiving any issues of clothing – in fact, very (very) few troops of the Northern Army had uniforms issued to them at any point until late October, after the surrender. Hunting shirts and civvies are probably right for all units, Continental or Militia. |

I guess I need to switch out a few of my flags. I did a quick check of my non-Saratoga British and they seem to be correct. |
