I have held off on buying gaming mats online because I have read many complaints – largely on TMP – about various companies and how long it would take for the product to arrive, and how poor the companies were in communicating. All of the gaming mats in my possession – save for the ones that I just bought – I purchased in a store or at a convention. I played in a game a few weeks ago and the host was using some basic Cigar Box battle mats and I thought the quality looked good. But I did not bite. Then, I read that Cigar Box was coming out with a new mat with a subtle 6" square grid. I finally decided to buy (along with another mat) and mentally prepared for the long wait. No expectation of it being here within the next 8 weeks. I could wait. I placed that order on Nov 3 and received both mats today, Nov 10. When I saw the package I had no clue what it was because I had completely pushed the idea of receiving the mats anytime soon. Not just that, but the mats look great! The subtle lines are nicer than the thicker lines on the hex grid (my other mat), but I am cool with both. Now if they will offer square grid on their other maps, especially with subtle lines, and in other size squares, I would be all set to order again! Thanks for the great service! Dale |

I'll have to look up the square grid mat; I have been giving grids some thought lately. |

Mats do seem to be signalling the decline for scenery tiles (?), I enjoy grids and maybe they will become more popular. If GW did a grid game (and they will) i am sure there would be a huge interest in grids. Once enough people enjoy playing games such as square bashing(1994) Conquerors and Kings, PBI, ROF, BAIT, MOCB etc there will be whole slew of rules using squares. So a gridded mat like this will be great investment. The cigar mats are made of a great material which has texture. martin

Now if they would just do an Antietam mat in their Civil War series!!! |

I too have always had great service from them. I have four of their mats now and I am looking at getting the new with the cut out terrain. |

I saw some of these mats in person today at Millennium Con in Round Rock, Texas. They do look nice. |

I've got 3 of their mats. Love them. I.also wish that they would do a full field Antietam and Gettysburg mat for Altar of Freedom. |

Mirrors my experience with Cigar Box. I only have one mat, but it arrived quickly and looks great. I will be purchasing more in the future. |

He was out of the version I wanted at Millennium. So I paid at the con and then it arrived less than a week later at my door. Have not played a game on it yet, but it looks great on the table. |
