The final 1st Balkan War scenario by me and Chris Pringle for Bloody Big Battles.
The Battle of Chataldja saw the two Bulgarian armies in Eastern Thrace throw themselves against the fortified line of Chataldja. While this was not the last defense before Istanbul (Constantinopole/Tsarigrad) it was the final organized defense. Ottoman Minister Nizam Pasha (who would be assassinated in the Committee of Union and Progress coup in 1913) re-organized the Ottoman Army of Thrace and prepared it to defend the lines. The tardy Bulgarian pursuit after Lule-Burgas gave him the time. This was a needless battle. The main Bulgarian operational goals had been obtained. The Bulgarian strategic goals were in the balance because the parts of Macedonia wanted, were in Serbian hands. The army was fatigued, and the army commanders un-enthusiastic of an assault. But Czar Ferdinand blinded by the possibility of becoming the first Christian monarch to enter Con/Pole in 460 years, order his armies to attack. This they did with elan. But the Ottoman defenders held and turned them back.
What would have happened if the Bulgarians had won? Probably Russia would have sent an army to Istanbul and threatened war to Ferdinand. By 1912 the Russians were adamant that the straits will either be in the hands of a weak Ottoman Empire, or their own.

There are a number of battles that could fit the BBB level which I have left out from the 1st Balkan War. The 1st and 2nd Battles of Bizani/Yanya, saw badly prepared assaults by Greek forces against the forts defending Yanya/Ioannina. The 3rd Battle seemed like a more sporting scenario. The new CUP government would lunch a combined arms operation in 1913 trying to dislodge the Bulgarians from Thrace. This combined attacks at Bulair (at Gallipoli), an amphibious operation at Sarakoy, and attacks at Chataldja. While all three together are major operations, they are too big together for BBB, and too small and connected to be broken down to individual scenarios.
Next up are the three or four great battles of the 2nd Balkan War (the 80 km front Battle of Bregalincha, the Battle of Kalimachi, the Battle of Kilkis-Lahana, and the Battle of Kresna Gorge).
