Can anyone recommend 28mm figures for Dark Age era Welsh?
What about sources to learn about their armies and enemies? I would assume enemies would include Saxons, Scots, and Norse?

Gripping Beast would be my choice as for figures.

Old Glory makes simple spearmen and bowmen. Gripping beast has more variety, including armored warriors. They are also slightly larger than OG. You can also use some of the GB Irish for Welsh.

Sources – Armies of the Dark Ages by Ian Heath is old but very helpful. Glutter of Ravens is not so old but also useful. Warhammer Age of Arthur also happens to be good and only ten years or so old!!

For figures I third gripping beast in 28mm.

Any Celtic figures in tunic with bare legs could qualify (as long as you use round shields), but if you adhere to the view that the Welsh cut their hair short and shaved their chins GB's more recent dedicated Welsh range (originally released in support of the WAB 'Age of Arthur' supplement) and OG's figures are correctly depicted.

My warband is Gripping Beast and quite. I've mixed a few Picts and Saxons in for flavor.

The Irish are another possible enemy. We have recently fought Welsh vs Irish using DBA, the Welsh Warbands being quite a handful for the Irish Auxilia to deal with.

Gripping Beast all the way.
