SESSION 45: NEW SKILLS

After the mornings horrific events Uthalin grabs Thomas, Ansic and Risandor into The Salty Tavern for a session. "Come on" says the big dwarf, "lets have a drink. At least look like we're having fun."

And for the next several hours they drink to forget the mornings events. It had seemed all so cordial and pleasant at Keep Greylock that they had forgotten that the evil grip of Cheliax is never far away. As Risandor is again singing just a little too loud, Uthalin leans forward towards Thomas and Ansic and whispers "I don't know who we can trust. I'm not even sure we can trust Eldred or the men at arms." He pauses for a moment and then his voice lowers "But I think we're going to start a list and the first in line is ‘Heinrich'."

Meanwhile, Halee takes stock of the party's loot and starts to liquidate it.

She visits Fenton and sell the 10 falchions and set of chain mail armour and they visit Captain Garin and collect the bounty on the 11 sets of orc ears.

They retain the magic mace and magic large shield for the moment.

All up they receive 1,276gp between the bounty, falchions, armour and gold and jewelry looted from the orc caves.

It'll take a week to retrain and get up their new levels and so they put aside enough gold to pay for their room and board and distribute the rest. A summary of personal wealth is provided in the following table.

Risandor sets to work drafting some new magic scrolls. Over a couple of days he drafts:
- 4 Cure Light Wounds
- 4 Sleep
- 2 Colour Spray
- 2 Enlarge Person

During the week Risandor also casts Read Magic on the scroll that they had previously found in the orc caves and discovered that it was a Fireball scroll. He uses Detect Magic and Spell Craft and after a few failed attempts (it's a DC 15 check, but you can check once a day on the same item) he identifies that it is a magical Mace +1 and magical Large Shield +1.

Including the scrolls, total party equipment consists of the following:
- 2 caltrops
- 1 tanglefoot bag
- 1 acid flask
- 2 flasks of oil
- 4 Cure Light Wounds scrolls
- 4 Sleep scrolls
- 2 Colour Spray scrolls
- 2 Enlarge Person scrolls
- 1 Fireball scroll
- 1 Mace +1
- 1 Large Shield +1

Total party member xp as follows:
- Halee 1,954 + 244 = 2,188
- Ansic 1,954 + 244 = 2,188
- Risandor 1,774 + 244 = 2,018
- Uthalin 1,774 + 244 = 2,018
- Thomas 1,774 + 244 = 2,018
- Men at arms 349 + 122 = 471
- Asmara 338+ 244 = 582

Upon the return of Trone and Lothar, Halee takes the opportunity to update the map of the caves of chaos.

Over the next day or so Halee also starts to map the parties' relationship with the locals. She is able to work out some of their alignments, personalities and attitude towards the party.

The party has used two days of their seven day stay at the Keep whilst they train. What should they do with the remainder of their time?

Had previously sent Halee actions via the 2nd level rundown and emailed an revision based on new info. Had not gotten an acknowledgement so unsure if I should "resend" or if the original or the revision stands and I need to send you more for the remaining five days…

I am not complaining – I understand completely you are a REALLY busy guy doing up all this and keeping it organized, and I (we) appreciate the heck out of the investment of time and energy making this all come together.

I second that, awesome work!

Thomas is doing busy work, hunting with Baby Cord, to keep from thinking about going back to the cave.

Any free days (not emailed about) will be spent gathering information, starting with Eldred, since he has been here a while, has a Friendly attitude towards us, and since he is nosy, would, "know things." If he does not know any of this, Halee will try to strike up friendly with Roderick (since we have a "bit" of history) to fill in blanks.
• Crops that each of the Masters and Heinrich grow and sell at market/caravan. Want to know what crops they have in common with one another.
• Impression of the relationship between the Masters and one another.
• Impression of the relationship between the various Masters and Heinrich.

I really like that relationship map, that's a very smart thing!

All part of the "Grand Plan…"

Dark Eyed Warrior 69a07 Nov 2016 11:47 a.m. PST

Hi guys. Thanks for your kind words.

Yep got your emails Mardaddy. I'm a bit bad at not getting back to everyone all the time but it's just a function of available time. If I respond to everything I don't get enough time to actually write and do all the graphics etc. It's all cool I know your not complaining but rather just checking.

On the Relationship Map I was trying to come up with a cool way to keep some records. I could just do an excel spreadsheet but I've found that the more graphics I can get into something the more 'real' it becomes and you get more embedded into the game. Hence why I have the little pictures of all the different NPCs all the time.

Can you guys read it ok though? I was trying to fit in as much space as possible but I might have to increase the font size a bit.

Since you mentioned it… yes, my old eyes can barely make out anything, relationship and the PC sheet. There is just SO MUCH information to try to fit it all (so I get it!)

For the PC sheet, I know what she has going on, so no issues really, but the Relationships, a bigger font would be more helpful.

Dark Eyed Warrior 69a07 Nov 2016 1:50 p.m. PST

Yeah that's some good feedback.

We lose a lot of fidelity converting and then hosting the pictures onto a photosharing site.

What looks pretty clear at my end isn't always the case at your end.

I think I might sacrifice the space and up the font size on the Relationship Tracker. Afterall there is no point in developing stuff like that if you guys cannot read it.

The PC Sheet is a bit more problematic. Funnily enough I do that more for me than for you guys just so I can try to keep tabs on the characters abilities and have them all in once place. But still it's great if everyone can read it. It's done in Excel and exported to Powerpoint and then JPEG'd and then cropped in Photoshop. Anyway I'll sleep on that. Might be that I break them down into two sheets (one for the characters and one for the NPC's or something) and put them into a landscape format. Or maybe I use a larger font size and export it to an A3 Powerpoint slide instead of an A4 and see if that works.

Anyway don't sweat it I'll sort out that stuff over the next little while.

Chiming in on the relationship tracker.
Since the map looks pretty big and for now a lot of the space isn't used, how about arranging the descriptions box along the sides and bottom borders?
That way they could be 50-100% bigger.

Personally I had no problem, DEW's graphics display had always looked good.
