I've just finished some new toys most of them are from Donnington which I think is a very nice range. The Elephants are Minifigs. The infantry on the left are QRF. Those on the right Minifigs and Donnington. All 15mm as usual.

I think some of the old ranges certainly pass the test of time.

Like them thumbs up!

My first ever game of WRG ancients back in the early 70s was Roman vs Sassanid (as it was termed then) – Minifig and Hinchliffe 25mm, of course … Elephants a plenty.

Always a classic army I think wink

Cheers Phil.

I had the old Hinchcliffe range back in the day and some Garrison too. Only one Nelly for me though. I was on a budget and had just discovered beer!

Very inspiring… I just got gifted 9 Sassanian clibinari (15mm Stone Mountain, I think) and am now looking at puting together a DBA army (even though I have never played a game, it seems like a doable project…).

Oh Bugger07 Nov 2016 9:54 a.m. PST

Thanks Codsticker. Very doable and its a fun army in DBA.

Maybe you can help me… I need 2 bases of Horde; would I use levy Spearman for that? Perhaps a mix of spearmen and archers; something else?

Oh Bugger07 Nov 2016 3:09 p.m. PST

Glad to, Yes levy spear would be what the DBA list means. I like your idea of a mix and it would not effect how they play.

Codsticker07 Nov 2016 6:35 p.m. PST

Awesome, thank you.

goragrad08 Nov 2016 12:56 a.m. PST

Nice!!!

Mine is a BBDBA army that are a mix of Asgard/Viking Forge, Essex, Minifig, Old Glory, AB, Tabletop/Isaurus, and an element each of Strategia Nova clibanarii and cataphracts.

Need to get some pictures.

Depending on which manufacturer you order from Codsticker if you don't get a pre-selected army and they don't sell figures individually, you might have some slingers to add to those hordes.

I am looking at building some hordes for the Sui Chinese b list and am planning on using a mix of peasants, unarmored spear, unarmored bow, militia swordsmen, and foot command for the 6 horde elements.

Oh Bugger08 Nov 2016 3:53 a.m. PST

Thanks goragrad. I like to mix and match too and look forward to seeing your pics.

Donnington still sell individual figures and so do Irregular I can't think of anyone else who does.

You know, I had thought of that! I have this idea for the base; to have a couple of slingers (or javelinmen) in front of the spear-armed infantry and the archers shooting from behind. Not sure if it would be an accurate visual representation but I think it would look good.

Codsticker08 Nov 2016 6:52 p.m. PST

I just placed an order with Strategia Nova… it will work out great: I will even have enough for 1x2Ps.

Oh Bugger09 Nov 2016 2:23 a.m. PST

They are nice figures.

Spudeus09 Nov 2016 1:10 p.m. PST

I may have to give Donnington another look; since their late Romans are in the 'old' category, I've tended to think of them as antiquated.

Oh Bugger09 Nov 2016 1:27 p.m. PST

Gotta say Spudeus you won't be disappointed. You can buy individual figures from a wide range of choices. It means, if that's your thing, you can have a lot of variety in a unit.

I'm working on some more Roman command bases so I bought some cavalry too, first rate and a choice of horses.

Good price too.

Very nice color scheme on those bad boys!

Oh Bugger16 Nov 2016 1:02 p.m. PST

Thanks Bob. Apparently green and yellow were colours of significance for the Sasanians.
