So, I watched this : YouTube link and realised I've only ever seen 3 Tom Cruise movies. One I liked, one was meh and the third stank. So – how many have you seen? How many did you like? Is this to polls ? |

Looking it up on wiki link I remember seeing: Legend – Liked it as a kid, kind of dont want to see it again, in case it ruins the memory. Top gun – Liked it as a kid. Rain Man – Liked it. Days of thunder – Not a big fan. Far and away – Liked a fair bit. A few good men – Liked a lot. The firm – Liked a lot. Interview with the vampire – Pretty okay. Mission impossible – Great. Valkyrie – Great. Edge of tomorrow – Fantastic all the way until the last few minutes. Hm, I might be a scientologist apparently.

I think tom cruise is a brilliant actor. I also think he's in a ton of bad movies. Top picks: Born on the Fourth of July and Magnolia. |

He had a great cameo role in the comedy Tropic Thunder. Overall dumb movie, but it really showed his talent in a side not much seen. He was rather funny. I'll second that Valkyrie is a very good movie. |

I love Tropic Thunder--it's a Metamovie--count the film references. I think there may even be a nod to Star Trek V. The two-disc DVD edition has a great "making-of" mockumentary by a Werner Herzog "director". Hilarious, especially for Herzog fans. |

From his younger days … Taps, Risky Business, All the Right Moves. I've got to see The Outsiders. Lots of good stuff mentioned up thread. I'm ambivalent about the person, but I've enjoyed his acting. |

Rich Hall is a pretty funny guy – and makes, somewhat surprisingly, insightful documentaries as well. which can be found on Youtube & BBC iPlayer. |

I've seen loads of Tom Cruise films, as noted above, he is a good actor in (often) bad films. A few favourites are Risky Business, MI:2,The Firm, Minority Report and Collateral. Collatoral is one of the best films Micheal Mann has ever made, just perfect in every way (apart from one slightly jarring plot obviousness). But as a Tom Cruise vehicle, nothing tops Risky Business "I've got a mid-term tomorrow and I'm being chased by Guido the killer pimp". |

In days gone by he would have had his leading lady walk in a trench so that he could see her 'eye to eye'. Therein lies TC's leading man problem and why he has had to do 'not so good' films. Of course, it could also be down to his religious beliefs, but that is his choice. Personally I find his beliefs no stranger than any other religious beliefs – I believe in the scientific method, which is prove it. He's a good actor and has a presence beyond his height. On the 'height of actor' factor, something relevant came up very recently. I was at a multi-school 'programme coding' competition where the prize was given by a guy called Addie (he did the computer graphics for Ironman). He said that RDJnr [Iron man] was a little guy and when they put his helmet on he looked like a dwarf [my word, for clarity of impact only, I can't do the visual gestures he used here] in a motorcycle crash helmet [his words]. So they graphically stretched him to make him [think balloon] to look taller in the films. BTW. My son won that competition [very proud dad] for coding a game that worked very much like the old Pacman game [he won, for his classmates an hours 'clip and climb' worth about £500.00 GBP, plus various bits and pieces, the least of which including a certificate with autographs and a hand drawn Ironman sketch]. My son is 10, and aspires to be an actor. In fact he has an audition for a short film tomorrow. His first job, lucky guy, was as an extra for three days with Henry Winkler – my son has worked with the Fonz! And, if you read this, I expect the appropriate [our generation, which passed my son by completely] response. Heyyy! |

I think he gives his movies his best effort. But, there are some he has done where I believe the producers made a poor choice in picking him. I have a tough time watching him as "Jack Reacher" who is suppose to be a 6'5" gorilla of a guy. Tom just does not fit the character. He gives a decent performance, he just does not fit the part in my mind. I though the Edge of Tomorrow was great, especially as he gets killed again and again. |

Lots of it.As far as acting is concerned he is a good actor, thus even if I do not like the film, I might enjoy it because of his acting. Beyond that , the less said the better. |

My old post got zapped (bug thread). I hate his competition movies (Days of Thunder, Top Dumb, Cocktail) but generally like him in other movies. Interview with the Vampire – I'm iffy on the film but cruise did a great job as Lestat, I really liked him when he complained about listening to whining for centuries. |

There are two that stand out for me - Tropic Thunder – a character that is so not Tom Cruise Interview with the Vampire – Tom Cruise pretending to be Rik Mayal, brilliant. |

I think tom cruise is a brilliant actor. I also think he's in a ton of bad movies. I am reminded of a speech by Michael Caine (my favourite actor, bar none) upon receiving some or other hoity-toity, big-deal movie award, "I've been in an awful lot of movies and I've been in a lot of awful movies." From Flashman14's list: I've seen: 9. I liked: 1 (Rain Man) in part due to his acting, 2 (The Last Samurai, Minority Report) despite his acting. Also ran didn't dislike: The MI movies. Fun to watch, but no Von Ryan's Express. Interesting bit: I've never seen Top Gun. Apparently I'm the only one on the planet. Disclaimer: If you sewed together all the bits of Top Gun I've seen over the years on entertainment shows, previews, music videos, actor interviews, memes, etc. and put them in the correct order, I probably have seen Top Gun. |

I have seen a lot of his earlier movies, some of his newer ones when they went to Netflix. Overall I enjoy even marginal movies, just a chance to let go of real world for a short time. Tom seems to have had one major part replayed again and again, he is the cocky young guy. Now he has graduated to cocky middle aged guy. Perhaps he isn't acting at all- that is who he is. |

I just heard about Top Gun 2 when Cruise was on Jimmy Kimmel last week. Kimmel called it a rumor. But Tom, not in so many words confirmed it. First I heard of it. |
