Naginatas?

Pauls Bods05 Nov 2016 9:22 a.m. PST

They do have Long naginata type "swords" in the 1st film

And the naginatas could also be removed and replaced with spears which (Tolkien wise) would be far more appropriate.

Yes,Paul, I was afraid you might mention those!

Did they(or Redbox) do the "Ninja Elves" from the Helm's Deep sequence too? I'm looking for something closer to Tolkien than Peter Jackson. But I understand the desire to produce what will get bought.

Edit:John--true enough. I guess ME figures will come to be divided into two periods: Before and After PJ. Sigh.

It does say "Elf II" so hopefully more elven melee troops!

Pauls Bods05 Nov 2016 11:02 a.m. PST

Hopefully they will do some more but it could be that Elf II means just that..the second set, as they already have the first

The new set Looks like a mix of the PJ film Versions, some are from the helms deeps battle, others from Dagorlad.

Both do really. I am just happy there are more melee types. The previous set also looked kind of PJ reminiscent. It was just too loaded with bows.

Assuming 3 sprues, that's 12 spear, 15 sword and 9 more bow. I might be good for a box or two. ;)

Really looking forward to these. Fantasy in 1/72 is really cooking these days

If you want to go with sizes of Elves closer to Gygax's 1977 Monster Manual, and his 1978 Players Handbook, for 1e AD&D, the 1/72 Elves are perfect for use with 25-28mm tall Human figures. That is what I am using my Caesar Elves for, in my BattleSystem games, as well as my 2e AD&D games. I like the stature differences Gygax built into his 1e rules. YMMV. Cheers!
