lots of fighting without many casualties – seems like it was more of a horse show than anything else? |

I suggest you read this; link BTW the fighting did get fairly vicious, Wade Hampton went out with a saber cut on his head. |

vicmagpa1: There are several good books about that portion of the battle of Gettysburg that could help you. Eric Wittenberg's, to my mind, is excellent. Just an opinion of course, but I believe it was somewhat more than a horse show. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head and don't have access to my books now, but I believe the losses to Custer's Michigan Brigade were not as trifling as cavalry losses frequently were. I think recreating the events on East Cavalry Field would be a fascinating wargame experience and wish you luck in your efforts. Thanks, John Miller |

Eric Wittenberg's work on the cavalry battles of the ACW are excellent resources. |

We fought a commemorative game during the 200th using F and F rules. We had 4 or 5 brigades per side and things went well until the Yankees started dismounting and using their breech loaders to blast the impending Reb charges. We had fun! |

I've run Brandy Station in public and Trevilian Station in my garage with They Couldn't hit an Elephant. Custer didn't fair so well at TS. |

The gettysburg companion by mark adkins is pretty comprehensive |

the fighting did get fairly vicious For a cavalry fight. The same number of infantry fighting would have done each other a lot more harm. |

For a cavalry fight. The same number of infantry fighting would have done each other a lot more harm You don't need high casualties to have vicious fighting. The gettysburg companion by mark adkins is pretty comprehensive
I can't speak directly to any discussion he may have of the Cavalry fight on Low Dutch Road but I dumped my copy because it is just rife with errors. I know people who have told me that his book on Waterloo is good but his work on Gettysburg is not. |

Want to know what I have NEVER seen? Any map that shows the action relative to the main battle around Gettysburg. It would be nice to see everything on one map. |

I agree Winston Smith. Looking to do whole thing as one relates to the other. More than likely in 6 mm. |
