I'm in the middle of this well written book and enjoying it.

However, the maps are poor and there are certainly not enough of them to follow the campaign.

So, I'm looking for recommendations for another Peninsular Campaign book with good, easy to read maps.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I have the Time Life atlas and find it is very good for just that…..

Sears book is quite a good read, and the Time-Life Atlas is a very good recommendation.

For outstanding Regimental level maps on several of the battles go to the Civil War Trust website, where they kindly have several excellent maps available for download on a number of these actions.

As to other books on the Peninsula that contain good maps, Brian Burton's "Extraordinary Circumstances" is, in IMHO, the best detailed description of the actual fighting during the Seven Days, with several regimental level maps throughout. It is an excellent follow-up to Sears' fine overview.

"A Pitiless Rain" is the good work on the opening action of the campaign, up to and including Williamsburg, while Steven H. Newton's "Seven Pines", is the best work about that battle that I am aware of.Both of these also have regimental level maps, if I recall correctly.

Won't help with this read, but there are a bunch of "Maps of…" books that cover various battles in minute detail. Such as:

Howdy,

I second Burton's "Extraordinary Circumstances;" it is excellent, but only covers Seven Days Battles.

As far as maps go, shown below is Library of Congress map of SE Virginia. It was drawn during the war. It zooms well to resolve details.

Ponder on,
