According to my exhaustive calculations (okay, I looked up moon phases and sunset/moonset times), today is the first day of the Dwarven New Year, or Durin's Day, which is "as all should know" "the first day of the last moon of Autumn on the Threshold of Winter." (NOT, notably, the first moon of winter, which overlaps the Solstice, but the last moon BEFORE winter, or "The Hunter's Moon" in later parlance.)

So grab your secret key, seek out a hidden alcove on a mountainside, listen for a thrush knocking, and watch for the last light as the slim crescent moon and the sun are in the sky together, and follow the path to dragon's gold.

Or, failing that, at least get in some fantasy gaming to celebrate!

(Alas, for all you lads and lasses in Big People cities, you probably won't be able to see the crescent moon, which is at its least visible tonight. But it's there, and it is Durin's Day.)

Yes, But is it really worth the trouble of cleaning out centuries of Dragon crude. Then there the mountain of Insurance paperwork. Arrgh!!! forget it I'am going back to my nice mine in the Blue Mountains.

I think this is the day that dwarves go swimming with little hairy women. . .

Do not trust the words of people who spent Dwarvish new years sober enough to type.

They are clearly hobbits in large boots and not proper Dwarrow-kin!
