It's been WAY WAY too long since I've put a new post up on my blog, but finally managed it today. Not all that impressive, but still some nice eye-candy, especially if you're into the Second Afghan War or NWF… or Kipling… or The Wind And The Lion… suffice to say, a modest range of subjects. The "October Surprise" part is that I wasn't expecting to get these figures back from the painter any time soon -- and then they suddenly arrived just before the end of October. So in this case, a nice surprise. Here's a handy LINK to the post: link …and here's a few teaser pics: 1880 ILN cover "led to excution at Cabul" recreated…
Likewise General Roberts in his tent on the road to Kabul…
And the Amir Yaqub Khan…
To see more, please come and visit, and thanks in advance for your time if you do! PS Here's one last pic, to show they're not all historical, as it features a c.1885 highlander and a c.1835 Thug, straight out of 1939's GUNGA DIN (one of the greatest movies ever made)…
…while I'm at it, here's Din himself, along with the Sergeant 3, and my veritable namesake, the MAD GURU himself:
If you want to see more -- including Jakin and Lew, the drummerboys from the 'Fore and Aft -- please stop by… |

Well, now, very cool – and that's before visiting your website which will have to wait a bit. |

My friend, what Captain Siborne did for Waterloo you are doing for the 2nd Anglo Afghan War! |

Guru, what can I say that hasn't already been said? Your figures, terrain and games are superb and inspirational. You continue to raise the bar, even on your own work, which is truly saying something. I especially like the Lord Roberts vignette and the correspondent. Great touches! |

My friend, what Captain Siborne did for Waterloo you are doing for the 2nd Anglo Afghan War! I can only second Nick Stern's sentiments here! |

Wow, you guys are too kind, but the kindness is very much appreciated! Nick, my friend… it will take me many, many more days and nights of hobby efforts (aka: fun!) to even get close… but reading your mad compliment put a big smile on my face! I still want/need to tackle the hilltop fortifications at Ali Masjid… the pine-covered heights and abatis at Peiwar Kotal… more river terrain-boards so I can lay out the Arghandab River behind the Afghan lines at Baba-Wali/Kandahar… etc, etc, etc… so for better or worse I probably won't be stopping any time soon! Re: the "ginger" beard on the Swami Origami -- a great figure from Artizan's "Thrilling Tales" range -- I completely agree! In fact… I've been thinking of getting a bunch of Ghazis with similar henna-dyed beards. My only hesitation is that from what little I know of Afghan culture, it's mostly done by older men, with at least some gray in their beards. On the other hands, it's also a sign of religious devotion, since it's said the Prophet Muhammad had red hair, so it's a way to emulate him, so maybe a group of devoted religious warriors would adopt the practice while they were still young and without any gray hair of their own… but I've never read anything mentioned about it in any contemporary history. Hmmm… maybe a better way for me to go is just use it on one bigshot Ghazi leader -- who would be old enough to have gray hair. Think I'll do that, so thank you, Sheepman, for leading me to figure it out! |

Awesome figs buddy. Great conversion work my friend. I remember when you did them. Your painter did an excellent job painting them. They are very fine editions to your most excellent NWF collection. Are we going to see them in a scenario any time soon????? I hope so. Cheers, JB sgtguinnes.blogspot.com |
