If you read the blog-post you will find no reference of medieval times, just pulp and fantasy.
In pulp there will certainly be relatively modern devices such as guillotines.

I'd agree that Iron Maiden are a bit dated (and my mate's band beat them at girly-game soccer many years ago), but I don't think they date back to the 19th C.
