Can you think of any miniatures lines which were relaunched, resculpted, rebooted, and came out looking worse than the original line?

I actually did not like the second editions of Warzone as much as the first. I liked the quirky character of the first ones. But I understand there now are third editions.

Flintloque.

The original Mike Owen sculpts were wonderful, and full of character. Everything since has been more cartoon than characature.

BloodBowl 3rd Edition minis.

Void. I liked the original Void 1.1 figures. They were simple but with alot of character. The re booted line with new sculpts did little for me.

The 2nd edition war zone figures were technically better, sharper sculpts but a lot of the 1st edition figures were more characterful for sure.

Der Kriegspielers' 25mm "Continentals" (long gone) had some nice figures, but the range was limited in size; many planned figures were never produced, judging from an old catalogue which I once owned. Years after a new owner had acquired the "Continentals", someone added new figures to this range which didn't match the originals and just weren't as nice. For instance, the really sharp DK Queen's Ranger infantryman finally got some command figures to go with him, but they looked like elves.

The same is true for RSM's 28mm/30mm FIW and AWI ranges. Some conversions made from existing RSM figures were okay, but others weren't so good.

Foundry tried some SYW French and British. They were pretty bad, especially considering that Mark Copplestone had done some previous Prussians and Cossacks.

Capitan 28mm figures; the original figures (Spanish and British) were exquisite sculpts however, since the change over in ownership the new figures look like forgeries/poor copies, smaller, full of flash, pools of metal and little detail.

A handful of the 1976 versions of Grenadier's Wizards and Warriors range were better than the early 80's re-do.

It was a mixed bag. The older ones were markedly less chunky, with better anatomy, but with cruder execution.

3 nominees stand out.

Minifigs 3rd Generation.
Minifigs 3rd Generation.
Minifigs 3rd Generation.

I understand the impulse to go for more animated postures to compete with their 1990s competitors, but they went overboard. I don't see Minifigs in the US anymore, unless somebody is fielding an old 2nd Gen army.

Minifigs 2nd Gens sell very well in ebay. Hint. Hint.

MiniFigs 3rd generation 15mm Napolonics.

Some criticized 2nd generation for being too static. I liked them, but could see why others wanted something with a bit more movement and more than just one pose of horse for all of Europe. But wow, did they over-correct with hyper-activity and every horse in Europe at full gallop.

I liked the thinner bases and more detailed sculpts of 3rd edition. I never liked 2nd generation, so never fielded units of them. I used other companies.
I thought this was about ranges that had been suspended or discontinued and later re-issued. But resulted in poor sales. There are a number of these since the older mounds are in disrepair or out of style.

The original Old Glory 15mm ACW. A little rough but really evocative of the period. Great figures. When reissued the new sculpts were less animated, the clothing didn't look like cloth, the NCOs only had stripes on one sleeve. No where near as good as the originals,

Warzone was one of the first games I started collecting, but a lot of those older sculpts did not age well.

And now they have a third edition, which is not only in an awkward scale, but have completely lost the flavor of the older editions. Such a missed opportunity.
