I know of Chain of Command and Bolt Action. What other rulesets are out there for 28mm,, if you could say a few word to describe them it would be useful. thank you |

Most sets of WW2 rules don't care what size figures you use with them. Larger figures might look a bit goofy with some of the smaller ground scales of course. Anything you can play with 20mm stuff, you can play with 28s. What sort of games are you interested in? Skirmish, Tactical, grand Tactical, operational? |

What sort of games are you interested in? Skirmish, Tactical, grand Tactical, operational? I am mostly interested in tactical. In regard of what you say about any rule set could do, it is true Martin. However, CoC and BA are sort of traditionally associated to 28mm. Wanted to know if there are other rulesets with 28mm in mind. |

Disposable Heroes … is a pretty good set. I've no experience of 'What Martin said' for 28mm WWII. |

Are there aspects of CoC and BA you like or dislike? That could provide an indication of other rules you might like. I can't think of many that compete in size with those big two, but Iron Cross looks intersting. |

Are there aspects of CoC and BA you like or dislike? That could provide an indication of other rules you might like. BA is a bit gamey. It is good fun, maybe kind of Warhammer of Ancient Battle for WWII. CoC is a bit too involved for me, too intricate. I am looking for something light that could upgrade BA. At the moment, Bolt Action is still my to go ruleset (and what we play at the club). Was just wondering about what is out there or people like. |

Perhaps Battlegroup? Looks like a nice balance of simplicity and realism |

Another vote for Disposable Heroes. In addition, NUTS! is a great game for skirmish 28mm battles. |

OK, so platoon-company. For individual based figures, then maybe CoCs bigger brother, I Aint Been Shot Mum? Arc of Fire is also good but creaks a bit with a whole company. Battlegroup might also do the trick, and is more modern. Certain a step up in realism from BA. Iron Cross is certainly interesting, but infantry combat is pretty abstracted. If you don't mind grouping your figures into teams, there are any number of Squad Leader-ish section based rules: Crossfire, Fireball Forward, PBI. |

For skirmish/tactical, I recommend NUTS!, a great skirmish game that I usually play with about a platoon per side. * Chain reaction system means you don't have godlike control of your figures * Solo and Co-Op play options * Campaign rules * Light roleplay elements link |

Battlegroup is a big step up from BA. Tanks have front/rear/side armor, and each gun has its won firing characteristics. So much more realism there. It uses DBA style pips (roll a D6 get that many actions). Sorta fun but hard to get right. Too many dice and the pips don't matter. Too few and your units are useless. Ranges are very compressed and there's an awful lot of "roll for a 6." Uses a QRS and unit cards which I found very cumbersome. Charts and cards all over the place. I am working on a QRS that incorporates all of the charts and unit data. |

Nuts can be played in any scale but given its aimed traditionally at squad-to-platoon and focuses in on individual characters, I always felt it was ideal for 25mm/28mm figures. |

thanks all for taking the time. Don't get me wrong. At the moment, Bolt Action provides us with good fun and excuses to paint stuff. So there is no need to be super demanding. We paint, we meet, we play and have drinks. I have Battlegroup, IABSM and Iron Cross. Will look at them again. I"ll check Nuts and DH. |

Probably a bit late to the party but how about Troops Weapons and Tactics (TWAT) from TFL? |
Weasel | 29 Oct 2016 4:18 p.m. PST |
TW&T runs fine in 25mm for sure, though I think I read somewhere the ranges were supposed to be written for 15mm? |
The Tin Dictator | 30 Oct 2016 8:30 a.m. PST |
We use Rules of Engagement, Rate of Fire, and occasionally Nuts. |
Pyrrhic Victory | 30 Oct 2016 8:47 a.m. PST |
I'd add combat patrol to the list. I think it fits the desire for something between BA and CoC in complexity. |

After trying many rule sets, our group settled on Rapid Fire. There's lots of scenario books. Company/platoon level with some twists to include individual actions. We play a game in 3 hours. |

@Weasel, I do TW&T with multibased 15mm figures these days. The ranges seem about right. I say this with the qualifier that, aside from submachineguns, there is no "maximum" range in TW&T… Everyone can shoot clear across the board, even if that may be considered a difficult shot at long range for some weapons. I would be surprised however if the ranges were originally meant for 15mm. Richard Clarke is very explicit (he usually is, mouth like a sailor on that one!) in his introduction to TW&T in one of the TFL specials that TW&T was specifically designed from the beginning for models larger than 15mm. @repaint, my rule of thumb these days is to base models according to the maneuver element in the game. In Battleground WW2, each soldier can individually move wherever they'd like on the battlefield, so I base them individually (usually 20mm and up). Any game that has "squad cohesion distance" or the like gets multibased as one maneuver piece (usually 15mm and down). After a long time gaming, I decided this looks 100x more appropriate and to scale, is a lot faster and just makes sense. Individually basing models for a squad-movement game is absolutely bonkers, in my personal opinion! |
