Because YOU (some of you,) asked for it -
- here it is! This is the D18 destroyer (soon to be available from Studio Bergstrom) with the alternative, 'Advanced' Command Pod. As fellow FASA aficionados will see, this Pod is closer in style and shape to that of the original design –
- but I have added much more detail and some changes intended to make the pod look more Klingon-y. So, when you order your squadrons of D18's from Studio Bergstrom (you will be ordering them in squadron-loads, won't you…? :D ), you will be able to choose either the 'retro' pod for TOS era ships, or the 'advanced' pod for Motion Picture era refits. I'll leave it to FASA gamers to let me know if I've succeeded with my re-design. :) - Martin |

Looks good to me, although I don't recall a forward torpedo on the D-18. Not until later models the D-18D and D-18E had them. There was also no bridge on it like the D-7, I'm guessing the forward pod was the bridge. But being a destroyer it should be better armed than a K-22 Bird of Prey. |

I like it! Good adaptation of the design. -Will |

THAT is what I was hoping for. You took the advanced pod and made it look good. An excellent refinement of the FASA look. That could be the deflector/sensor in front. In fact, almost all plans for the Klingon D-7, the source ship for this detail, the large circle at the front of Klingon vessels is listed as the main sensor/deflector. The weapons ports are often off to the side or under this detail leaving the impression that this is a weapons port. The Bird of Prey has its weapons in the same cavity because it is such a small ship. -Eli

Nicely done! It is more Klingon-y. As much as I liked FASA designs expressing different styles on occasion, their original D18 pod wasn't menacing enough. This now looks like a destroyer. So, yeah, Klingon-y! Cheers, RC.

Good take on it. Frankly, I would think there's room in the fleet for both versions. It's pretty clear the boom could be build as a stand-alone component, maybe even at a different shipyard, for connection to the rear hull. Could be that other ships (D-10?) would have a few with this style command pod as well. |

The D-10 had a more D-7 style bridge and I think it is good as it is with your re-imagined command pod. -Eli |

Finally, a "new-style" command pod that I can stand … |

Thanks all, for your comments! Great to see that many people here give the 'advanced' pod the thumbs-up. I'm a happy digital modeller. :) Sargonarhes – the bridge module is my own addition, to help tie the pod into one of the design cues of the D7. Eli – I think Ghost is right in thinking there is supposed to be a variant of the D10 with the command pod of a D18 or an L9? It could be a way of visually identifying a later mark of the class. I'll have to check… - also, you are quite correct in thinking the aperture in the front is the deflector. I am of the opinion that the Klingons also mount their forward torpedo tube here, (as in the K'tinga class), by firing through the middle of a 'ring' style deflector that surrounds the muzzle of the tube. Treknology-wise, I imagine the deflector flicks off for a split-second while the torpedo clears the aperture. Nothing too tricky there. Next up for the Klingons will be the L-13 battleship! (I must be mad…) - Martin |

Good to hear all of this, Martin. I would still love to see you do some original or even fan designs. FASA stuff is great but there is a lot out there that has never seen the light as a miniatures. -Eli |
