I finally finished my 1897 Greek Army in 10mm.
You can find more pictures, and guide to how I assembled it at link With Respect Konstantinos Travlos |

Very cool, Konstantinos! I modeled this army in 25mm. Reading descriptions of the war, I have been tempted to re-do it in a smaller scale, so I could refight the big battles of the war. You make this look feasible! I never got around to adding the Garibaldists to my army. Maybe I should go back and do that. I recall they had a valiant cantiniere who would rush out and pull the wounded back behind the firing lines. Nice touch having several different types of artillery--historically accurate, too! 1897, the "Unlucky War" – splendid stuff: "It was a race for defeat between [Greek] cowardice and [Turkish] apathy, and cowardice won." G.W. Steevens (1897), "With the conquering Turk: confessions of a bash-bazouk". Still good for gaming though! I have had fun refighting Velestino and Domokos. Ah Steevens, and many of those other "western" observers. Quite the prejudiced bunch, though it is still intellectually stimulating to read their accounts. |

Always important to be aware of historical sources' biases. Impartial observers … aren't. |
