I'm returning to paint up some Aussie troops (been sooo patient) using Bolt action rules. What was the typical platoon set up? In particular, how many M-60 teams would they have, and how many LAW grenade launchers would there have been? Cheer!

In very general terms, each platoon had 3 rifle sections (roughly 7-9 men each depending on sickness, r and r etc) and an HQ section. Each rifle section had 1 x M60 and at least 1 grenade launcher. All very task specific though, but it's a good building block.

As you said a good starting place, I bought the Force of Arms 28mm figures platoon pack some time ago, they came armed with mostly slrs but several had American weapons M16s,M79s and M60s.Reading up a bit more during the mid-sixties the Australian army were in the middle of swithching to US and had a mix.
i`m guessing snipers were more to the special forces role. Thanks

Breaking it down each section had a commander usually with an m16(corporal) a machine gun group (gunner with and m60, number 2 and section 2ic usually a lance corporal both with SLRs. The rifle group 3-4 with slrs maybe 1 with an m79. Oh and a forward scout with an m16 or f1 smg.
3 sections in a platoon add a platoon sergeant with an m16, radio operator with slr and platoon commander with an m16.

Great info frostdog, I`ll get the blokes sorted with all this. There are several figures carrying spare ammo,so they can be the loaders in the machine gun team.
Thanks to both guys, time to crack on now!!!

one last question, as I`m painting these troops there seem to be a coil of rope on nearly all the figures, what was that for?

Toggle rope. Used by the army since WWII for jungle river & creek crossings.
