Depends on situation. Defending a fixed position? 5 or 6. Meeting engagement? 2or3 |

4 is a good average for most situations. |

Three is about what I try to work around in my similar games. That might or might not include a gun + crew. Three units lends itself well to adding a brigade CO as a supplemental Leader figure and handling that division as an independent command group. |

I've found that a player can handle @ 8-12 "things". A thing is a unit, leader or special stand like artillery. |

We usually use 4 – 8 units per player, probably on average 5 |

Here's my recommendations from running large con games for the past 20 plus years. 5+ players: 2-3 units max, one can be an artillery peice. 2-4 players 3-5 units max, with one being an artillery peice. *A gunboat armed with 1-4 artillery and MG's and one unit of infantry or Marines is suitable for one player in a large game or the bulk of a force for one player in a 2-4 player game. *In later periods an armored vehicle may be substituted for a gun in a persons OOB. Cheers, JB |

I always thought a cool way to do a game would be ach player take command of an element. An element being Infantry, Cavalry or Artillery. The overall commander then is in charge of giving orders and deployment of units…Sure not everyone is going to get locked into combat but it would be more realistic and tactical IMO. It would rely on a good amount of teamwork… |
