I was wondering as to who makes the nicest BMP-1/BMP-1K miniature in 15mm. Has anybody found any of the several available to be particularly good?

Flames of wars Team Yankee plastic ones are the nicest by a country mile, skytrex do a decent BMP1k

The one from Khurasan might be even better.

Darkangelcryo:

I have metal BMP-1's from both Skytrex/Old Glory-Command Decision and also from Quality Castings and I have resin ones from Khurasan. The QC ones are very well cast but small being 1/108 scale as compared to the others which are 1/100. The Skytrex ones are bigger, quite well cast and have a variety of types of BMP-1 variants on offer from Skytrex.

The resin and metal Khurasan BMP's are beautiful little models but do require some work overcoming some track issues on older versions of the mini. The track on older versions of the model tended to warp and required gluing some platicard strips behind them to keep the tracks straight and flush with the ground. This was corrected on later versions of the model. The kit has 11 pieces and with the exception of the track issues on older versions of the mini, assembles well and looks outstanding. The option to glue hatches open or closed allows the builder to make some variations in BMP assembly and presentation. I like the Khurasan BMP's the most despite having to deal with the track issue on 8 or 9 of my thirteen BMP-1 kits.

But for price the Old Glory-Command Decision three packs are very cheap. The individual packs of the same models from Skytrex were expensive however. The Quality Castings BMP's were priced less than the Skytrex ones but more than the Old Glory-CD three packs.

I have no personal experience with the Battlefront TY BMP-1's so I cannot help you there.

Cheers and good gaming.

Rod I agree with you on the Khurasan BMP's My tracked were badly warped. These being the early resin cast one. The fix is on my blog: link

I believe the tracks are now cast metal.

Sgt Dutch:

I like your blog. Very interesting. Any piccies of your BMP's fully painted? I have only primed mine and base coated 7 of 12 so far. As to the track issue, the last four Khurasan BMP-1's I ordered had a newly designed plastic/resin track unit with an integral backing plate which was part of the tracks. A very good fix which made the later BMP's a very easy assembly. I'm a very satisfied customer! When I can afford it, 13 BMP-2's and a company of the Khurasan 1980's Soviet infantry are next.

Cheers.
