"Plastic Cacadors ready for paint" Topic

Hi guys

OK, I think these are ready for paint, Have added moustaches powder horns and re did the plumes since the last pics, I just want to add some lace to the officers cuffs then that will be it, unless any of you can see an area that is wrong or could be better, all c&c welcome, as for colours, I'm not really concerned with what unit I do, I will go for the most interesting colours, the 11th Cacadors sound good, brown uniform with red collar and sky blue cuffs, I will try to paint these dirty and faded.

Looking at the detail, as far as I am aware, the Cacadores had British equipment. That would mean sword bayonets for the Baker armed riflemen, and ordinary bayonets for those with Brown Bess muskets. The British had no hangers by 1800 so the double frog for bayonet and sword was not issued. In contrast, the Portuguese had their own version of 'wings' which was different from the British ones illustrated; smaller and less striking.

Hi Artilleryman – excellent, I will try and reduce the size of the wings, and will look into the sword/bayonet, I have seen a histofig plate will sword/bayonet, I will need to do more research.

I am not sure, but it maybe that the NCOs with muskets had the dual frog as they did not carry pikes in the line infantry. I have never seen a Portuguese dual frog illustrated. My rule of thumb is to equip the Portuguese like their British allies as they were the main source of equipment after 1809.

Very nice – good work on the moustaches; I have not been so successful with the green stuff!

I'll second that. I love greenstuff, but for something that fine I would have cheated and just painted on a very unconvincing moustache. These will look great.

I think the best bit of the facial fungus is that they no longer look British. Real difference just going back to your earlier posting.

Gunner I'm going to say this once, Go pro mate! And make us proud, you do brilliant work. I'd love to see figures like this for sale. (Me I'd want bits in white metal so I could build those units I've always wanted, like muskets with hands and arms and wings that I could glue on to a plastic b ody, metal bayonet frogs and wow those heads would be very useful too). I'd love some overly moustachioed heads for early spanish too, jeez now I've a biiiig list of 'needed' for you now:) nicely done GD

I'll say this again though…as I did come back for second look. I cannot resist conversions like this and I am not sure whether I will be more excited by these painted up or GD's next conversion project.

The guy with the bugle. Seriously, I thought he was drinking brandy out of a jar, as I had only seen the dimpled base, end on!

Anyway, to me GD will always mean God's Own music from Haight Ashbury SF and the late 60s and the 70s.

Thanks guys, I'm OK at converting stuff, but not sure about sculpting from scratch, so won't be making my own line any time soon.
The grey parts are Perry, the brown are Victrix Brits, the greenish bugle is Victrix French.
