Had a great AWI game today using Black Powder with amendments, including fire then move and brigade morals. Worked really well and a great game. Full AAR here; gapagnw.blogspot.co.uk [URL=http://s574.photobucket.com/user/rogercas/media/100_6209_zpswoymsb7u.jpg.html]

How do you have your units based? How many figures per unit? |

Hi Mike, we have trialled it for AWI only to start with but I do intend to use it for Great Northern War. We feel it suits the preferred tactics, rather than a British regiment marching up to Militia and then blasting them away what you actually get is them marching up and taking a volume of incoming, then in their own turn the fire a volley and charge through the smoke, hopefully at a disordered enemy who will then give them a second volley of closing fire all of which seem very realistic. Add to this that Militia can wait for the British to march up, unleash their volley and then retire and you start to see that this reflects actual tactics very well indeed. (Not that us wargamers will usually fire and retire I have yet to see most waragmers do anything but stand and fight to the death) I think it also suits the aggressive tactics of the Swedes in the Great Northern War, march up to short range, fire a volley then charge in through the smoke. |
