Any suggestions for suitable ranges? I'm thinking of the expansion into Turkestan, possibilities for intervention in Afghanistan, early 'Back of Beyond', the 'Great Game' turning into a shooting match and so on… I know Outpost do a very nice Russo-Turkish War range with lots of possibilities, and the Askari Russian colonial range looks good. Are there any other ranges I should look at before I add to the lead pile? I'm only looking at a small force: no more than 48 infantry and 8-20 cavalry (including Cossacks, got to have Cossacks!) with assorted Leaders, dodgy Political Officers and strange looking artillery. I'm planning to use either MWWBK or SP2 for rules. Thanks for all advice! |

If you want 1870s Askari are the best For later on the Copplestone range is great The uniforms changed a fair bit from 1870s/80s to later times |

I prefer the Out Post Figures IMO they're much better than the Askari ones! That said the Askari Russian sailors are nice, my thoughts on what I bought are here: link My mainly Out Post skirmish force…
The Askari sailors look ok…
But their Russian Army command figures are a bit disappointing they just don't look 100% right to me but I've got them so I'll be using them! In the picture below the one on the left is from Out Post and the other two are from Askari they just look odd proportion wise in fact I think the drummer is an extra from a Wallace and Grommit just show look at those hands…
Cheers! |

My 1880-ish Russians are a mix of Outpost, Askari and Eureka. I think the Eureka ones look best but all are good. Here is a comparison shot, with a Perry British soldier for comparison. [/URL] I'm currently painting some Copplestone Caucasian Cossacks to support them. They are slightly anachronistic, but close enough for me!

Well let me partly highjack the thread. Does anyone know of any company that makes Russias in Alexander's III time? They wore a different uniform than those of Alexander II? See for example
(a short fur hut rather than the kepi or furshaka) |

Really helpful, thanks chaps – looks like the main 3 contenders are all quite compatible. |
