A Plus thread made me think of this. Theme songs fell out of favor, partly, I guess, from perceived "corniness",but mostly from lack of time, due to increased commercials. You may have noticed the truncating(Lucifer) or elimination(Lost) of any opening music at all in the last decade or three. There have been a couple of threads on "best theme", but I'm talking about TV theme SONGS,with lyrics. I guess they all come from the "classic"(i.e. "old") TV era. What's your favorite? Here's that thread,BTW: TMP link |

SONGS,remember, so for this poll: Rawhide--in (definitely!) Hawaii 5-0--out (great theme,but no lyrics). My poll,my rules! Head'em up,move'em out,ride'em in! |

I always loved The Trap Door theme YouTube link I had no excuse for watching it as I had no one of the right age that I could watch it with. x42 |

Gilligan's Island. Set the tone and premise of the show quickly…and was fun. |

Babylon 5 season 3. Doctor Who Tom Baker. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 22 Oct 2016 9:45 a.m. PST |
Ah yes, The Ballad of Babylon 5,and "Doctor Who,Doctor Who"--I still sing that one(he sneered). Pay attention here, this is serious stuff. |

Somewhat closer to a gamable theme (well, more than Mr. Ed) All but one man died There at Bitter Creek And they said he ran away. Branded! Marked with a coward's shame. What do you do when you're branded? Well, you fight for your name. |
Robert Burke | 22 Oct 2016 10:02 a.m. PST |
F Troop. I can still sing the entire song after all these years. |

Two spring to mind Firefly, and MASH (I know the tv show didn't have the lyrics but the film did and the tv show used the same music, so please allow it) |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 22 Oct 2016 10:07 a.m. PST |
Don't mess with Chuck--even when he's Branded! TNE--ARRGH! That's up there with this: youtu.be/7-t2n_jk1QM There--now they're both ruined. Coyote--one's in,one's out--even though the "in" has only ONE WORD in the "lyrics"(I must hew to my own rule). |

Jim--that's great, I'm feeling deprived. Bilbo's in it,too? Got to see it someday. Winston, now you're just being silly. But I guess it's as good as Sammy and Bill. Can't argue with Sarah Vaughan, though. But--did it ever appear on the actual show? |

TNE--Boy,there was one the producers got right! Now,go find us the clip of Kirk,Spock,Scott, and McCoy singing "Star Trek". The Munsters one reminds me of a rip-off Batman LP I had, with a Robin Theme. The "lyrics": "Robin,Robin! Robin,Robin!" ad nauseum. |

FAO Hafen Jim--that's great, I'm feeling deprived. Bilbo's in it,too? Got to see it someday. Not sure which 'Jim' you mean. If you are referring to 'Dad's Army' then make sure you watch the original series, available on DVD and YouTube. link The 2016 remake is hardly worth the time to watch. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 22 Oct 2016 10:50 a.m. PST |
Stone Mtn--oops,sorry,didn't mean to preempt, I was editing that in while yours was going up. Fame refreshed, famously,by this version: youtu.be/t-wUe5aEwHM Jim--yes,I meant you, sorry. And it's on my list. Recently picked up complete Babylon 5 and Andromeda at a book sale (88 discs for 5 bucks,ha!),so it will be a while. |

Gilligan's Island probably would get my #1 vote. Theme music from Combat and Hogan's Heroes are up there too. Good nomination for Beverly Hillbillies |

Babylon 5 didn't have a theme song, but it had some pretty impressive opening monologs, based mostly on "the last great hope for peace." |
Weasel | 22 Oct 2016 11:39 a.m. PST |
Pretty much MASH, lyrics are optional. |
Cmde Perry | 22 Oct 2016 12:05 p.m. PST |
Dog gone it, Hafen! I've spent the last three hours on YouTube, all because I wanted to see/hear Rawhide, and Hawaii 5-0 with lyrics, and then…and then…. …there went three hours! Perry
P.S. And no, I didn't find my favorite classic TV theme song, either. |

Hafen von Schlockenberg | 22 Oct 2016 12:43 p.m. PST |
Hey Flash, you snuck another one in there,I saw that! But yeah, snap! snap! Definitely in,and in the original series, unlike the Munsters song. |
