In 10mm you should be able to do the campaign on a 1:1 basis |
KSmyth | 22 Oct 2016 9:31 a.m. PST |
Oh no, what have you done? |

Excellent Darryl, I'll follow this with interest. |

So will I. Very tempted by the Perrys range but really no space for another 28mm collection, and the lack of a good 15mm alternative has put me off so far. I've always used 10mm/N gauge buildings alongside my 15mm ACW and AWI figures, so I guess that's most of the terrain sorted already. Oh dear… |

Good luck Darryl! I have 15mm Canadians, not all painted up. While I don't plan to abandon the -5mm project, I'm always tempted to do it in 10mm as well with the Pendraken range. The challenge is to find ACW figures in light kit, I can't imagine many of the Fenians had bedrolls or backpacks. I think Cracker Line have 10mm ACW in light kit. I will probably pull the trigger when Pendraken releases their Canadian infantry in pork pie. I'd like to have a mix of shako and pork pie. |

Unless you delve into "what if" most Fenian war historical battles are not even good skirmishes Ridgeway was probably the largest A good alternative would be a Union/British war either during the ACW or just after An American invasion of Canada could allow the use of various British units as well as Canadian militia There are some good alternate History series that will provide scenarios and troop backgrounds I suggest the 3 Part series by Peter Tsouras Bayonets, Balloons & Ironclads: Britain and France Take Sides with the South (Britannia's First Trilogy |

Very good I'm sure, but not quite the same as doing the Fenians and 'What if'ing that. The question for me is 10mm or converting 15mm. Some times Irregular Miniatures will respond to interest in a new range. If they did produce the Canadians would anyone here by a ready made army from them- about £25.00 GBP from memory? |

OB – I would buy them, depending on how they portrayed the infantry. Gotta be with the shako and more than one pose! :) Totonto – Not really interested in what ifs. Ridgeway I think can be a fun scenario. Using the force mix given for the Fenians in the recent Ridgeway book and going to a one stand is 20 men scale, I can put together a fun scenario. Not planning on one to one…no need to buy hundreds and hundreds of figures! KSmyth – nothing, I've done nothing at all (man whistling as he types this). :) PAR – Light kit should be doable. A couple of ranges out there with some light kit I believe. But thanks for reminding me of Cracker Line! |

My experience with Irregular is that, should Ian decide ts worth his while, he will follow the research forwarded to him. That said I've no idea if he would go for it or not. But he does pride himself on the diversity of Irregular's offer and if a few of us showed interest he might too. Any how I await your next installment with great interest. |

Ridgeway book(s)? Any recommendations? |
sjwalker38 | 24 Oct 2016 10:27 a.m. PST |
Vronsky's "Ridgeway" is meant to be the definitive book but is hard to get hold of and usually very expensive. |
Prince Alberts Revenge | 24 Oct 2016 1:30 p.m. PST |
Agreed. The Vronsky book is the best single resource. He even goes into some basic uniform details when breaking down the forces involved. It's a great read and really provides a lot of the background stories of those that participated or were affected by the battle. I also own Hereford Senior's book on the invasion, although I haven't read it yet. There was also an article in one of the wargaming magazines years ago (maybe Strategy and Tactics?) was pretty decent and had some nice color photos of re-enactors. |
