"The capital of the self-proclaimed Islamic State in Iraq is now under assault. But ISIS isn't going anywhere. Instead, the terror group is beginning to rebrand itself from a "caliphate" to an insurgency, a top U.S. general fighting ISIS said Wednesday. It's much more than a change of name, or even a shift in tactics. It could well mean that there will be no "lasting defeat" of ISIS, even if it loses control of Iraq's second-largest city, despite Secretary of Defense Ash Carter's claim of such a victory just four days ago, when the Iraqi campaign for Mosul began. After two years of either training local forces to fight ISIS or hitting the terror group with airstrikes, U.S. officials said they believe it still could evolve into the kind of threat that has plagued Iraq since shortly after the 2003 U.S. invasion…" More here link Amicalement Armand |

It has no choice. Just like GWII in Iraq, to take on the might of bigger, better, etc., armed forces. They can't fight anyway else but an urban insurgency at this point. Especially since Daesh has a predilection for using human shields, hostages. etc. And they know the West's predilection for trying not to have anymore CD. Than is absolutely necessary. Plus they are taking loses without replacements. Their only outside chance is to become a totally urban insurgent terrorist force. Good thing they don't mind being martyrs … |

Poor recruitment + martyrdom isn't a great long term strategy. |

ISIL was a guerillia army from 2006-2014. It's just going back to its roots and will revert to form when pressured to do so. It will wait until the world powers aligned against it become distracted or grow complacent and will then reemerge in name or in type further down the road. Cheers. Rod Robertson. |

Poor recruitment + martyrdom isn't a great long term strategy. And they know it … will then reemerge in name or in type further down the road. As I have said before. This is a generational war. It will last as long as all the sects, tribes, etc., of islam decide to let it. I.e. not to "fix" it. Which at this time it would require too many of the lunatic fringe and some others to move into the 20th Century … let alone the 21st. Or they get tired of killing each other. Or one side runs out of "true believer" fundamentalist types ? |
