Hi all. I painted up this classic old AD&D boxed set over at Dead Dick's Tavern. I painted some to look like the Istari, the five Wizards of Middle Earth. angrypiper.com/gaming/?p=1342 Drop by and check out my efforts! Comments welcome, there or here. |

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. And nice job on painting some pretty "challenging" figures. |

Making 70's and 80's lead look great is an art-form all by itself. Great job! |

With regards to the blog post, I believe the wizard's familiar is supposed to be an imp from the AD&D Monster Manual (1st Ed.).
Love your work on these. I have the illusionist, aka "Evil Sorceror" somewhere in my old mini collection. Never painted it, but always thought it was a great wizard figure— mystical, powerful and menacing. |

Very fine paint jobs and fun figures. Love the spell effects. Well done. |

Haven't seen these figures in over 30 years… Last time I saw these, I was a Freshman, in High School. Had completely forgotten about them. This is the first time I've ever seen them painted. Nice work! Thanks for sharing. Cheers! |

The familiar may indeed be the MM imp, but I think it is actually a resculpt of the first Grenadieu wizard from 1976. Same familiar on the 1976 version, same pose. This would have been pre-Monster Manual. |

Grenadier used to have great sculpts and quite a few still hold up today. |
