Unfortunately I have had a few issues with the HMGS MidSouth for a while now. I cannot seem to get anywhere. To be honest I cannot tell if the trouble I am experiencing is directed towards me or just in general. I have wanted to become a member of the HMGS MidSouth, but I have not been able to. There is no way to join via their website, and there is nothing posted on their website about how to join. As far as contact info, there are only 2 email addresses – one for the board and one for the webmaster. There is no information about who is on the board or specific contact info for the board; just a single email address. I have contacted the webmaster via email. I got a response that the only way to sign up at one of their two cons: Siege of Augusta or Nashcon. I have attended a number of Siege of Augusta cons, but I could not find anyone who knew what to do. Most folks said they sign up at Nashcon or are not members. I contacted the board via their email address, but I could not get any response on how to join. I have a number of issues, but I am trying to work through one at a time. |

Is becoming a member that important? What does membership give you? It seems rather odd that it is so hard to become a member. You say you have other issues with them. Why, then would you want to become a member? |

1 You want people to join your club 2 You make it extremely difficult to join 3 Nobody joins 4 Everybody wonders why the club closed |

Back when a membership newsletter was made the proceeds from membership were used to cover printing and postage costs. Every year a membership directory was printed and mailed out which allowed you to potentially locate other gamers in your area. Membership also got you a discount to registration fee's at HMGS con's. With the advent of the digital age, many expressed displeasure at having any of the membership information posted on the internet, and so, the need for the bulk of the funds disappeared when no one wanted to invest the time and effort into writing, editing and publishing the newsletters and membership directory. The bulk of the funds are used every year to run the main convention Nashcon and in the past they have also helped to fund Siege of Augusta and the Wargamers Reunion. I pay my dues every year at Nashcon as I know that nice facilities do not come cheap and the facility there is very nice and hospitable to the group. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. |

Mike, I should not even need help joining. Both 45th & Razor78 have valid points. |

You're right, Foxhole. Being unable to join -- or even get a response to an email -- for an organization in the year 2016 is damning. |

MidSouth is pitiful. Google "Siege of Augusta" and here is what you get… the January 2016 convention page!! link Or go to the "Facebook" page: "content unavailable" Perfect! link |

why would you want to belong to an organization that clearly does not want you as a member? (apologies to Woody Allen) |

At Foxhole Terrain we want to support local stores, cons, and clubs. MidSouth is the HMGS in my area and we want to support it. I am not begging for membership. Rather I am trying to determine if the issue is directed towards me, or is it a MidSouth problem. When we attend shows it is customary to give discounts to HMGS members. Should I just ignore HMGS? Are we so broken that the HMGS is not worth it? |

Dan; Sorry you are having all this trouble. James Rogers is the current President of HMGS Mid South. I don't know his email address, but he does have a Facebook page. Try him there. BTW, I am glad you will be attending Wargamers Reunion. I know for sure I need a 2" river set from you. See you at the reunion. |

To be honest James has not been very helpful. |
