looks like a m706 commando or the modern variant the m1117 i think it is called |

I'm not certain, but I believe that is a modified M117 security vehicle. |

The Kurds had a Urutu 6 wheeler apc on the news yesterday, mtlb's with deck mounted 23mm guns and T55's in the same column…… |

Not sure the camo works very well in that environment---but it is pretty! |

M117 with a modified turret, Tally Ho! |

Thanks for the I.D. Odd looking camo for a desert operation. Maybe to match their uniforms ? Side skirts I suppose are to deflect small arms fire at the tires. What are the two posts on the engine deck ? |

Yes, I'd go with the M1117. link Are these actual Iraqi governmental forces ? Or one of the militias, etc. ? The posts on the rear deck ? Good question … the M1117 didn't have those as far as I know ? But those were issued to US Forces after I got off active duty. |

I don't get the colors on the vehicle or the uniforms. It would seem not that hard to get "desert color" pain or uniforms, but I see black alot in photos. Don't they believe in the "if you can be seen, you can be hit, if you can be hit, you can be killed" advice? |
Legion 4 | 19 Oct 2016 9:46 a.m. PST |
Well … as we know the various Iraqi forces are not generally known for their combat effectiveness, efficiency, fieldcraft, etc., … Save for most of the Kurds … |

that's their 'night camo' |

It is the M1117 ASV, we gave/sold/left many to the Iraqi police and army. The police ones I saw were painted light blue and white. As to the uniform? That would be anyone's guess, although I would tend toward an Iraqi Army 'Special' forces units as they are uniformed and no green head scarfs which would indicate Shiite militia. Heck they could be Iraqi Air Force security personnel… |

Found this whole unit in similar black camo. They stand out very distinctly against the desert.

Cam, They look like the CTS, Tally Ho! |
Martian Root Canal | 19 Oct 2016 11:15 a.m. PST |
Speculation, but they may be painted uniformly black to be easily detectable to aerial assets operating in support. |

Could be for urban combat ? |

The second pic looks like they're shooting a sequel to the new 'Mad Max.' |

They match that smoke pillar in the background – good camo if the Hellfires strike. ;-) |

My guess is it's to avoid friendly fire. I don't think Cmourflage would be a major help in that war – long range enemy would miss, short range would see you anyway! |

Don't they believe in the "if you can be seen, you can be hit, if you can be hit, you can be killed" advice? No, they don't. It is Allah's will if they get hit or not. And Allah's will if they survive getting hit. |

It is Allah's will if they get hit or not. And Allah's will if they survive getting hit. Good point Lion ! the M1117 ASV, we gave/sold/left many to the Iraqi police and army I've see pics of Daesh driving M1117s too. We know where they got them. And obviously these in the pics are not Daesh though. Is that a Port-a-Pot in the left foreground of the 2d pic ? |
