…Retake Mosul From The Islamic State. "Tensions emerged Tuesday among allied forces fighting to retake the northern Iraqi city of Mosul from Islamic State, as Kurdish fighters accused Iraqi government forces of inaction on only the operation's second day. The long-awaited assault on the extremist group's last major Iraqi stronghold began Monday with rapid advances by a contingent of Kurdish fighters, who stormed nine nearby villages in the first phase of the effort to retake Iraq's second-largest city. But the pace slowed Tuesday as the Kurdish fighters, known as Peshmerga, consolidated their gains and prepared for the next push. They also criticized their partners in the Iraqi military. "The Iraqi army hasn't moved even a bit," said the Peshmerga's Gen. Sihad Barzani, brother of Iraqi Kurdistan's president, Masoud Barzani. "The plan was us taking villages, and then the Iraqi army takes some of them. They didn't."…" More here link Amicalement Armand |

If you think it's bad now wait until ISIS is gone and these erstwhile allies start fighting for Mosul ….. |

Saw on the new today that they aren't. Apparently, the attacks on Mosul haven't really started at all, if the reporting is correct, but that they're attacking villages near Mosul. More lies, as usual…….. |

Oh, and none of our troops are in the "front lines". If not, how can they direct fire from "OUR" aircraft for this "Iraqi" operation? Iraq is rather flat, so are they using jetpacks to get a view from on high to direct the "American jet pilots" to their targets? |

Yes, the reports are the villages around Mosul are being taken before the actual attack on the city. That is just sound tactics, etc., … But as I mentioned, there will probably be a civil war after Mosul falls, among it's "liberators" … Kurds, Iraqi forces, Shia militias supported by IRGC. What could possibly go wrong ? And I can say with little reservation. There are US Spec Ops types with the lead elements of those forces to call in and coordinate the CAS, etc., … Which is so very important in this attack. |

Mako – if we called it the Mosul Pocket, would that make you happier? After all, in 1944 nearly all the fighting for Caen didn't happen in Caen… so obviously history is also wrong, yes? |

They shouldn't lie and say the attack on Mosul has "started" when they're really attacking the village of Iranawaystan. Also, apparently 5 – 6 ISIS fighters have held up the whole Iraqi "Army" for the last few days, according to reports today, so the freeing of Mosul, assuming that ever occurs, may take a very long time indeed. |

Is this better for you Mako11? The campaign for Mosel has started. Your being rather literal in your complaint. As to the Kurd's criticism yes they've advanced and captured 9 villages but truth be told ISIS fighters pretty much abandoned them and the Kurd moved in, not much if any fighting. |

Until they actually start attacking Mosul, I would say nyet. |

Yes, and it has been reported that the Turks have attacked some more Kurd forces. Some that have forced Daesh to withdraw … Hmmm ? |

Sadly, at least one, or several of our American military "advisors", "not in the front lines" have been killed in this operation in Iraq, so it isn't anywhere near as safe as some imply it to be. |
