"You might be thinking that during the Second World War, Europe was the region where there were most Jewish people. A lot of people don't know this, but during the war years, there were Jewish communities living in the Far East too under the occupation of the Japanese forces. It is said that there were around 30,000 Jews in Shanghai alone, but there some that were also living in small communities in China, Philippines, and East Indies, which were areas known for having neutral administrations. Another group of Jews was living in French Indo-China, but life was not easy for them due to Vichy's anti-Jewish laws that prohibited them from a number of activities and removed them from all the important positions that included working for the government…" More here link Amicalement Armand |

Good article in that it goes into a subject few people know about, however it leaves out important information, like why the laws in China were against the Jews in positions of power or economics. It is general knowledge about David Sasoon's establishment and family run (backed up by the British) opium trade. The damage that did cannot be overemphasized. Knowing this, the laws make total sense in that respect and are anything but antisemitic. |

Ah, yes…a Jew was in a business that sold opium in China, so any resulting laws forbidding any other Jews from positions of authority is not anti-Semitic. That is, well, simply not on. What would you say if there were laws that forbid Christians to serve in positions of power or economics? There were more Christians involved in the opium trade than Jews, one surmises. But it still seems a bit, well, discriminatory, does it not? So, no, the laws do not make total sense, and are anti-Semitic. |
