Gentlemen, I took two days off from painting miniatures to replace the interior doors of the house. So now I have four old smooth hollow core doors, each about 6'6" high and 1 1/2" thick, three about 30" wide and one not quite 24". Somewhere is there is a wargame project--probably terrain of some sort. But I can't think what it is.

Can anyone suggest anything? Or have a spent two days and not advanced the hobby at all?

They'd combine into a pretty large table setup.

I made a diorama out of folding closet doors.

My wargame table (top) is made up of two such doors.

Yup, wargames table.

You can do cool things like:

  • Make a modular table that can be 5'x6.5', 7.5'x6.5', or 9.5'x6.5'
  • Build a lip around the edge (e.g., vertical 2x6s) for hanging cupholders, dice trays, ruler/measuring stick buckets, etc.
  • Make legs 36-40" high (most tables are 30-32" high, which hurts most backs from bending over too far)
  • Build a permanent table with permanent gaming storage underneath
  • Paint one side in a green theme and the other in a tan theme, using something tough like flat latex paints and sand, so with a simple flip of the table surface the game is in temperate/summer theme or arid/winter theme. Use the leftover paints to make hills that match perfectly.
  • Permanently model a recessed river on one of them. Admit it: you've always wanted a river that is lower than the fields around it. We all do.

Yellow Admiral you're hired!

Agree wholeheartedly with the table height, mine is 41" and on casters.

Thank you one and all. You're perfectly right, and since I'm not hurting for raw table, modular terrain boards they will likely become.

I so needed another project.
