"As European allies watch Russian aggression in Europe with concern, the Norwegian government is considering allowing a small contingent of U.S. Marines to be based in the country to facilitate better military cooperation and be at the ready in the event of a crisis, Military.com has learned.

The force under consideration is small, about 300 Marines, a defense official said.

Pending the approval of the Norwegian government, the Marines would deploy in a six-month rotation, with additional rotations to follow if approved, the official said…"

Iraq's getting 500 pairs of new boots on the ground to add to all the others that aren't supposed to be there.

I guess Norway just isn't a major priority. A pity.

Lucky Marines. Good way to visit a Scandinavian country without having to qualify for Embassy Duty or pull Sea Duty.

Sounds like a good training opportunity … And that region is very much better for a number of reasons than Bleeped textholes like Syria, Iraq, A'stan, etc., …

I'm pretty sure our old Cold War plans had at least a USMC division headed to Norway. I know they started pre-positioning some heavy equipment there a few years ago.

Yes, that was as I understood it … That part of the region was assigned to the USMC.
