Not getting married (done did that), so … what is the oldest force you still have that you could put on the board (finished longest time ago) and the newest (again, board ready by your definition)? My oldest is a set of D&D monsters from the 70's. My newest is a couple dozen Celts I just bought from a TMPer and finished last week. Extra Credit: I borrowed the idea that unarmoured Medieval Europeans paint up nice as 1970's B scifi civilians. I suppose my aquatic trolls or Smurfs are the blues. |

Unfortunately all of my childhood stuff is gone, when I moved to the States. |

Define "force." Probably the 30mm CLS Westphalians were ready by 1972, though I later upgraded some Scruby cavalry. Some regiments are a bit older than that. Last weekend I finished the 5mm Peninsular British cavalry for V&B or the Wessencraft Army Corps game. |

Kind of fuzzy. I have a small number of my Marx green army men, which saw my first attempt at rules in the mid-1970s, but they weren't bought for use in gaming. They are painted, sort of, in the way a seven year old from a different era might paint them. I still have my D&D character figures from 1979, though they aren't a unit. Probably the oldest painted unit or force is my first platoon of CinC M1 Abrams from 1983 (I think I got them at Fal-Con at BGSU). Most recent are 1/285 Mig21s and F5s pictured here: link |

Oldest: Eight 25mm Vikings with battleaxes that I painted in the early 1970s. I think Hinchcliffe made them. Newest: Zhodani infantry company completed in early 2015. |

Oldest unit I have are these Dutch Grenadiers of the Guard that I painted about 1977-78. As a kid I had a small collection of Dinky cars. I traded them in for a bunch of blank metal minifigs and Hinchliffe Napoleonics. My mother was not happy but 40 years later I still have the wargames figures. link My latest unit (as opposed to refurbing some Bretonnians) is this Orc Giant link While there has been a lot of water under this bridge in that time here I am – still a wargamer. |

I still have some of my Roco MiniTanks from the 1960's as well as some of the Airfix infantry to provide support. Otherwise, I would go with my 25mm Minifig SYW Austrian army from 1973-74. |

My oldest set of miniatures was the old Grenadier "Tomb of Spells" boxed set. Once horribly painted, now stripped and awaiting repaint (whenever I get around to that…) My latest acquisitions are some Brigade Old West miniatures I picked up from TMP's OneHuai Ticket in the Marketplace. |

Oldest is a Minifig Macedonian army I started painting in 79 and finished in 80. Newest Moorish SAGA army (actually not quite done yet, but should be by Friday. |

From the early 60s – 1/35th Scale WWII soldiers. Along with the 1/35th scale armor units. They are long gone. My Father used to find our hidden bunkers and foxholes well into the 70s, with his lawn mower. None survived the whirling blades. Now it would be 15mm Napoleonic Prussians and 25mm D&D figures from the mid 70s. |

Define "force." Any number of miniatures that you could put on the board as a complete side for one player in a game you typically play. Well-defined and vague at the same time. If this ran as a poll, I would recommend running two polls, both with a list of time categories. I think a sliding scale is appropriate given the above responses. 1) When did you paint your oldest miniature wargaming force? 2) When did you paint your oldest miniature wargaming force? 50,000 BC – 1959 AD The 60's or 70's The 80's The 90's 2000-2005 2005-2010 2011-2012 2013-2014 2015 2016 Tuesday Next |
