So there are a lot of 40k armies in the area that are getting no table play. No one can agree on which version of 40k rules to play. So I'm looking for an alternative set of rules that may have some army lists for 40k themed armies. The rules have to be able to handle big games, think Apocalypse size. I've played Warpath, it went well. Trying 1page40k rules next. Any other suggestions. |

1page40k is supposedly pretty solid. For smaller more characterful games I would suggest Clash on the Fringe. Feels like the best of old 40k with some nice modern mechanics. Here's a link to a 40k game I ran using it. It was a hoot. link |

I've had fun with Tomorrow's War a few times, can really get the feel of 40K universe! No points, so has to be a good group to try to get the right balance :) |

Crisry, Can 5150 handle 3000 points per player and vehicles? |

I believe that Frogs In Space from Sargeants Three is intended for that purpose. |

FUBAR, for dead simplicity, decent tactical gameplay (suppression is important), and some work already done on the setting. Tomorrow's War is, IMHO, the absolute best, but at Apocalypse levels it might not work that great – reaction chains could get crazy, if you have too much stuff stuck on the board. It does 40K better than 40K, though. I'd look hard at Nordic Weasel's stuff – it's highly recommended, and he's always easy to contact and very helpful. |

Bolter action is my choice for 30K Hersey action. |

The No Limits rules give players a great reason to dust off the minis. link |

We have enjoyed One Page 40k, but Bolt Action worked well, too. |

We use Gates of Antares when it first came out but its lost favour recently , Tomorrows War was especially good and recently big fans of GRUNTZ as we can also throw in custom made vehicles and make our own stats for it ,, doubling all the ranges as its written for 15mm |

Tomorrows war. It has a learning curve, but is worth it. |

Fun at will allow you to run a few 100 figs USA load of vehicles in a game. |

I'll be happy to answer any questions you have about Clash on the Fringe, though I must admit, it's aimed more for the 30 figures a side level than the giant battles. On the upside, you get campaign rules so hey :-) |

Frogs in Space by Sergeants 3 is infantry-only, pretty much. Dreadnoughts on down. You could probably cobble the armor rules from their Interwar variant. Titans would be a total rules build from the ground up. Not sure how many figures are in a typical 3K force but FiS uses 10 figure infantry units so you can get an idea of how many units you would have. You would have a lot of work to use FiS as a WH40K Apoc replacement. |

Wow! Don't know what rules I was thinking of, but Frogs in Space it wasn't! After looking at the rules again you will find everything short of Titans in there. Tanks, APCs, mortars, crewed ATGs, big guns, chain guns, etc. plus Dreads and all kinds of infantry. Adding the Interwar variant allows you to bring in additional ideas too (like bringing back grenades). |

Defiance from Majestic 12 games has generic force lists based on a bygone edition of Wh40k so it must count mj12games.com/defiance See "Army Demo Lists" PDF in the right side panel. In actuality, while it can certainly replicate a fair bit of Wh40k stuff -- especially when using some genre mods from the Vital Ground and Evolution of Arms books -- it is really too different to be a good fit. Works in a pinch tho and even if it doesn't it's still IMCO a very solid game on its own right. |

Hi, Shameless plug here, but my new book Xeno-Force is great for using 40k miniatures with. Superhuman marines fight hordes of aliens. xeno-force.com The pdf will be available on wargames vault in a week or so hopefully. I'll be posting some news about it as soon as I can. Have a look at the battle report on the blog… Cheers Richard. |

Shameless plug, I have a 40k build that adds all that modern stuff that kids love these days, like suppression and reactions. link |

I've been using Dragon Rampant -there is a sci fi variant out there too. |
