How do the rules compare to JR or FF? |

Interview with the author here: TMP link Key points for me are they fight like the proper Civil War battles in that they encourage forming one or more Lines of Battle with your Divisons/Brigades and the action revolves around commitment of Brigades but indvidual Regiments do the fighting. There's no figure removal (no rebasing either) Regiments get worn out and moral is reflected as part of the shooting/combat as they degrade. There is also a nice variation on the command point idea surrounding "Staff Officers" who are allocated by players to keep Brigades in the fight, and have other functions around manoeuvre etc. They are more in Regimental Fire and Fury territory than the original F&F if that helps. Although they easily work on a Corps per side and more if you have the resources. |

If I have a hundred infantry bases, how many regiments/brigades can I field? |

Well the nominal base/man ratio is 1:70 – 1:80. Given the average Regiment for both sides at Gettysburg was around 350, I guess 5 bases would do it. Personally, I'm going for 5's and 7's for my Regiments as I'm obsessive about having the command stand in the middle of a unit! As for Brigades, real ones were what? 3-5 Regiments so I'm looking for that but I guess it would depend on the scenario and if you wanted to represent an actual formation. The man/base ratio is quite high but I think that's to enable players to build Brigades/Division easily, bearing in mind the focus on the real world operational level of committing a Brigade or Brigades from a Division then having Regiments do the fighting. |
