I was wondering if any of you guys could give me an idea of how much to charge for 2nd hand space marines, painted to a reasonable standard.

Next to nothing. The GW values depend on the power and rarity of items in the 40K lists. Space Marines are constntly being updated and 'the kids' want the latest models.

They would be worth more unpainted or painted to a "professional" standard. A mediocre "table-top" standard won't get you much I'm afraid.

Try selling them at 50% discount on consignment at your FLGS first.

Depends what they are.

Metal or decently painted for a well known chapter or rare or Forgeworld or still on sprue hold some value.

Assembled bare or average painted plastic generally much less.

For regularly painted marines, about $1 USD to $2 USD per model on eBay is what you generally see, with worse or mix of paint styles being $1 USD and better painted being between $1.50 USD and $2 USD a piece.

Characters and special weapons can fetch a bit more, but not a whole lot compared to retail.

It varies immensely. Some old Rogue-Trader era figures (late 80s, very early 90s) can be pretty valuable. Unless the paint work is good, you'll probably get more $ stripping them back to bare lead though.

Newer stuff is only worth the quality of the paintwork, if that.

I have been "sitting" on my collection of original metal space marines(from the first metal figures made for RT) and I don't thinnk they fetch much.

Mean to say, the metal marines I have are from the early years of the game, and are quite rare. They ar'nt worth much.

The internet has killed resale prices for most 40k figures. As ebay has grown the resale prices have dived as more and more people list their collections. Prices of common figures have fallen and rare figures have been hammered by increased supply of legit minis and by recasters. It's only the genuinely rare and the things the recasters aren't spewing out are really valuable. Forgeworld is still getting decent prices.
