A wonderful range but almost denied to us in UK/Europe until someone imports and holds a stock. As always, it is not the postage that is the problem. It is the customs seizure, the tax to pay, the local postage penalty for holding the item, the delay!

Personal logo Flashman14 Supporting Member of TMP13 Oct 2016 5:48 a.m. PST

If it's all right with you, I'll wait for Tango to post this. =p

Chokidar13 Oct 2016 7:46 a.m. PST

Agreed – both about Tango :-) and Brigade Games. There is stacks of stuff I should like to buy, and the prices are reasonable, but you just get slaughtered by customs and handling charges. I just had another skinning for almost 100 euros yesterday on quite a small item! So – either I wait for a European stockist, wiat until I go to the States, or just don't buy.
Pity really.

Doesn't North Star have the range on their website in the UK?

"A wonderful range but almost denied to us in UK/Europe until someone imports and holds a stock. As always, it is not the postage that is the problem. It is the customs seizure, the tax to pay, the local postage penalty for holding the item, the delay!"

We ship packages to the UK and EU every day.

"I just had another skinning for almost 100 euros yesterday on quite a small item!"

Curious, how is getting taxed 100 euros possible on a small time even possible?
Any tax is on the value so I assume the value is way over 100 euro for a tax to be 100 euros.

I wouldn't call that a small order.

Northern Monkey13 Oct 2016 8:46 a.m. PST

Brigade Ganes, do you ship to the UK? I have tried to order several times, but when it comes to calculating shipping your web site asks me to put in a zip code, which only allows postage to the US. How do we Brits order from you?

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP13 Oct 2016 9:34 a.m. PST

It is not your fault.

If someone imports into the UK commercially, they can charge us the local tax called VAT. Fine. If only you had a UK agent who stocked the entire range

But if I order from outside the EU there is no way I can pay this tax in advance and I do not pay US taxes. Fine…

But when they get to UK the customs will hold onto anything until duty is paid. Fine, I'll pay that.

But then our postal service charges further for holding the item and also will not deliver now. It must be collected.

Now in 18mm scale everyone here relies on Fighting 15s if they want to buy AB miniatures which started life in Australia. I once ordered a unit of Saxon Garde du Corps from Eureka. By the time I got them the charges fro postage, duty, handing by postal service almost doubled the cost

North Star offers a very limited range alas. Nothing Napoleonic (I wonder why not?)

Northern Monkey

every day.

The shipping calculation page will not work for non USA calculations.

Once you fill your cart:

On the cart page, use the red button, not the yellow paypal button to checkout.
You will have to put your address in for shipping calculations to be done which would be shown on the next page of checkout.

You can also get a 'guesstimate' on miniatures only orders on the Ordering/Shipping Information page.

Personal logo BrigadeGames Sponsoring Member of TMP13 Oct 2016 10:56 a.m. PST

Chockdar

I understand about VAT and customs. However, getting dinged 100 euros for this means the order was significantly more than 100 euros. My point was that it was not a small order as you mentioned.

Private Matter13 Oct 2016 11:22 a.m. PST

BrigadeGames: If Chockdar considers that as a "small" order then I would suggest you try to get more of his business and especially bend over backwards to get his "large" orders. ;-)

Empires at War Sponsoring Member of TMP13 Oct 2016 12:14 p.m. PST

I got some British Peninsula war cavalry and Portuguese Cazadores a couple of years ago shipped to the UK with no problems. The exchange rate now though…..

Wargamer Dave13 Oct 2016 12:41 p.m. PST

More importantly than shipping to foreign shores…when are these available!?!??!?!

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP13 Oct 2016 2:42 p.m. PST

But why not a European agent to make life so much simpler? Would make the range massively more attractive and accessible over here. North Star do nothing from the Brigade Napoleonic range, which is surely one of the biggest sellers!

They are all beautiful sculpts. These latest 95th are instantly recognisable (unlike previous attempts, elsewhere ,to reproduce these characters)

We are working towards that as we have moved all new items to a contract caster. We have already moved about 80 codes to them as well. But it takes time and money to do it. Everything else is cast by me on weekends.

D A THB13 Oct 2016 5:26 p.m. PST

Now these figures look like I imagine the characters to look like. Must get them.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP14 Oct 2016 11:41 a.m. PST

Had a personal response from Brigade Miniatures on this, for which many thanks.

I keep trying to reply but get "sorry there has been an error" X 3

Importing may not be the problem I thought/experienced in the past. Who knows post Brexit anyway? I will treasure my Irish EU passport, but that will not help the $US/ŁUK exchange rate. I simply love the castings and imagination gone into the choice of figures.

I'll wait till these 95th turn up and try out an order!

Will these be available at Fall In?

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP15 Oct 2016 4:04 a.m. PST

Funny, at fifth attempt still cannot reply. Just get an error message.

Yes, easy to confuse….Brigade Games Miniatures. The range is superb and I now accept not as inaccessible as I had thought. Delighted to learn that and, soon as the 95th figures appear, there is much in the range I have long coveted.

HappyHiker21 Nov 2016 5:47 a.m. PST

Has anyone managed to order these and get them delivered to the UK ?

lmntel21 Nov 2016 12:35 p.m. PST

Hi I have ordered figures from Brigade a few time and apart from time delays as I wanted things that had to be cast to order ,I have had no problems with customs or any added taxes . Im in the UK . Cheers Martin

Lord Hill21 Nov 2016 1:29 p.m. PST

Fantastic figs. Hopefully I can get some one day.

Sale announced today,

but I am not sure if these are yet available

custosarmorum Supporting Member of TMP26 Nov 2016 7:44 p.m. PST

I don't think they are available yet. When I asked about them at Fall In Lon said it would be a while -- he was still waiting for the greens. But three other Rifles packs are available and they are very nice!

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP27 Nov 2016 4:43 a.m. PST

Got a reply on an other topic confirming that

TMP link

But I also agree that what is there looks excellent and I'll get the lot at one go. At first, Rifles seem easy after Trumpet Majors and Kettledrummers, in full dress….. at first…..

Getting the right shade of green, the right highlight for a green that dark, keeping the white piping thin enough……hmmmmm

custosarmorum Supporting Member of TMP27 Nov 2016 7:07 p.m. PST

I picked up the new Rifles at Fall In but was hoping for the two character sets as well. They will fit very nicely with the Perry Rifles I already have and will add some nice variety. Now painting them, as you note, is another matter.

KoppiBlogger06 Dec 2016 11:29 a.m. PST

Is there a release date for the range? Can't find the minis in the Brigade Games shop.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP06 Dec 2016 11:32 a.m. PST

25th November, right from the horse's mouth "not out yet".

Follow the link I posted above 27th November.

I hope they have commissioned a large run of these….much interest.

Get them early. Moulds tend to wear out with time and need replacing!

custosarmorum Supporting Member of TMP13 Jan 2017 5:58 p.m. PST

Lon at Brigade has just announced in an email that these are now available! I was going to wait until Cold Wars but I am guessing that my discipline will break down and I'll be ordering in the next ten minutes!

Marc the plastics fan14 Jan 2017 2:26 a.m. PST

Sadly, customs is a lottery. My recent orders (1/72 Gondor and elves in a suspiciously PJ style…) came through fine despite size of box and value being significantly over the threshold £18.00 GBP I believe.

But when I have been caught it is scary how much extra I had to pay – almost £100.00 GBP

So it is "take your chance, pays your money"

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP14 Jan 2017 4:43 p.m. PST

I have tried saying that but been shot down in flames (NYACKatacatacatcata…….etc….canopy stuck…..A6M2 on my tail……you know that kind of day)

But for these figures and the rest in this range, not easily got in UK/EU, I will now take the risk!

custosarmorum Supporting Member of TMP21 Jan 2017 4:41 p.m. PST

I just received my Brigade Games Sharpe and Harper as well as the "veteran" Rifles (some of the characters from the TV series such as Harris, Hagman, and others) packs and they look great -- lots of character (no pun intended grin). I thought the Nock volley gun looked a bit small (based only on my recollections of Cornwell's description) but after googling some images it is probably the right size. The castings are nice and clean.

I am looking forward to getting them painted and in a game of Sharp Practice 2! I may soon have enough Rifles for the Complete Fondler scenarios…

Schogun23 Jan 2017 9:38 a.m. PST

Ordered right away and received a last Saturday. Nice, clean castings. Great detail. Lots of gear to paint!

Can anyone identify each rifleman fig in the group shot? My guess is (L-R): Tongue, Harris, Cooper, Hagman, Perkins…although any of the figs look too old to be Perkins.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP23 Jan 2017 10:45 a.m. PST

Well my order went in 5 minutes ago……I have requested the full range of 95th and those Savants. Long wanted civilians.

Let's see how they get past our Customs folk. Who knows, you-know-who might yet set up a "special relationship" with UK and it all becomes free trade…..but then my Westfalia orders become…Oh forget it….

Lord Hill23 Jan 2017 3:31 p.m. PST

I started going through the order process but, for just nine figures (I really want those amazing riflemen), it works out at £29.52 GBP, including postage.

£3.28 GBP per foot figure is a bit beyond my budget at the moment :( – maybe I'm being stingy!

I hope there's a UK stockist soon, wonderful looking figures.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP24 Jan 2017 2:36 a.m. PST

I would second the UK stockist idea. Remember that, for the next two years anyway that removes all customs problems with the rest of Europe too.

I've ordered the entire rifles offering plus those civilians, the savants (always wanted them). For rifles the two Sharpe sets (chosen men) and three sets of "regular" 95th. Cost was about $65 USD and postage $23 USD…….I reckon worth it for these. Long wanted to sample their products

Funny thing, far as I know, Sharpe never did serve with the 95th did he? South Essex etc, rifles rig as "chosen men" somehow. I have only ever read the Waterloo book and seen Sean Bean do his thing on TV, mind you.

Personal logo BrigadeGames Sponsoring Member of TMP24 Jan 2017 11:52 a.m. PST

the post has only 4 rate bands since last February. Made sense to the bean counters I guess.

So up to 8 ounces, 9-32 oz, 33-48, 49-64 oz are the bands. The first two typically capture most orders we see although we do get them up to and over 4 pounds.

The first rate band are generally $13.50 USD-$14, second $22.50 USD-23, $34.50 USD, $49.50 USD.

Second, also understand that me having a stockists overseas have to be able to order enough to make it worth my while as currently 35% of my sales are overseas. I also have to be in a position to supply the entire range which is something we are working towards (see my previous posts in this thread.)

Lord Hill –
"Ł3.28 GBP per foot figure is a bit beyond my budget at the moment :( – maybe I'm being stingy!"

Well, I wouldn't really add the postage as part of the calculation. Yes it is part of the cost to get the figures but not actually the figure cost. Plus you would have postage in the UK from a UK dealer as well. While not as much it would certainly be something.

Maybe I should consider attending a show in the UK in the future.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP24 Jan 2017 1:00 p.m. PST

I have long decided that, working as a collector not a wargamer, I will make no one's fortune, but the one thing I will not "stinge on" is the quality of the figures themselves (might be different if ordering hundreds at a time!). "For a Few Dollars More" is worth it if you are then going to invest hours in finishing each figure to your own highest standards.

I long decided this range looked superb and was very tempted by those French in Egypt figures, but the lead mountain is growing.

You do make a very good point about stocking up a UK supplier. I had not considered that. Mass production, so the entire range is there and will not quickly be exhausted……. the implication is a major investment for any manufacturer

HappyHiker31 Jan 2017 7:38 a.m. PST

Lord Hill – "I started going through the order process but, for just nine figures (I really want those amazing riflemen), it works out at £29.52 GBP GBP, including postage."

I did the exact same thing but the postage was more than the figures so I chickened out. I thought about bulk ordering and reselling some on ebay to recover postage costs, but again chickened out. Maybe we should do a bulk TMP order ?

Personal logo BrigadeGames Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Feb 2017 2:51 p.m. PST

HappyHiker

If you are ordering 9 figures (I assume NBR073 and NBR072 as that would give you 9), the costs are $22.50 USD for product and $13.50 USD for postage = $36 USD, roughly $28 USD-29 USD. $13.50 USD USD postage is about 11 pounds sterling. Sorry, but it is a cost we have no control over.

The best deal for postage is ordering a bunch as the second rate band goes from 8 ounces to 2 pounds. Most of my overseas orders are in this rate band.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP01 Feb 2017 3:59 p.m. PST

Which is not unreasonable to be honest…

and remember I was the first to moan, as above.

It was my US Marine Altama boots that did it for me. First pair were fine to import, but they froze in Red Square, in February, (seriously) and both cracked right across the instep within minutes. The replacements cost me more in customs, handling charges, postage than the price of the boots! Let's forget that…they were worth it.

I wish I had ordered more from this US miniatures company, as I have put it off for so long. I just love the range they offer….and Paul Hicks does have that talent. His figures may have some despondent facial expressions, often suggesting some inbreeding, but they are good!

My order will not pay off their bank loan and postage etc is a significant proportion of the total charge. But the point is well made. I should have got those camel riders as well, the dragoons etc……

I am a collector. Hopeless for commercial considerations!

Who knows? Our "special relationship" might totally transform our commercial links across the water. This could be a totally unexpected advantage of recent events in politics………totally…

HappyHiker02 Feb 2017 7:49 a.m. PST

Brigade Games
I just wanted to order NBR73($12)and NBR074($6). So including postage $31.50 USD(18+13.5) for 7 figures. I realize you have no control over the postage, its just a shame it works out so much for a small order. These look like fantastic figures which I'd snap up from a uk supplier. I suppose thats not very helpful, but please let me compliment you on the quality of your figures, even if I don't actually order them.

Empires at War Sponsoring Member of TMP02 Feb 2017 11:03 a.m. PST

Shipping is a nightmare both ways. I could sell loads more of my Normandy Building kits in the US if only shipping costs were less than the £18.00 GBP i have to pay for sets of 5 weighing only 1.5 kg. Fortunately it looks like i have a US stockist now.

Being a Napoleonic fan first and foremost i would love to see these stocked in the UK. The figures i have are excellent as you would expect from Paul Hicks.

Hagman02 Feb 2017 1:22 p.m. PST

As one might expect, these figures are very anatomically correct, HOWEVER, they are quite slight in stature and don't stand too well against even Warlord Games figures, let alone Front Rank. They are smaller than the other Brigade Games figures in my army. They look great but I'm disappointed I can't use them as I intended.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP03 Feb 2017 10:42 a.m. PST

Have you all seen the new KGL Lights just added?

More use for rifle green paint and garrison of LHS.

The site will not let me copy the images alas

Hagman, I have no idea what you are talking about.
All the same sculptor and his style or sizing has not changed in the 10+ years he has sculpted for me.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP14 Feb 2017 4:55 a.m. PST

I totally take back all my doubts. They arrived today in UK and I am absolutely delighted with them. Great castings and animation. The "undercuts" are superb. For this kind of look you would expect to have to assemble multipart figures.

No flash or mould lines that I can see. The ejection pins, that you get with Perrys, but these come off more easily. They are certainly slimmer than Front Rank (that is not difficult) but are just as tall as their Light Infantry redcoats. Totally compatible with Perrys and Westfalia anyway.

I can only compare them with the Savants from Brigade and they are identical in scale. Wish I had known about the Light KGL just added!

Love 'em

mysteron Supporting Member of TMP16 Feb 2017 5:44 a.m. PST

Just received mine today and I have to say I think they are wonderful looking figures. A tad expensive but thats because of the week pound and and not Brigades Games fault.
I will be using them with other 95th Rifles figures and perhaps now I could have the South Essex with Harper and Sharpe leading them into battle.
