Yes. Before I game I have to toss my magic 1777 Saratoga sixpence piece. Heads you win, tails I lose.
It's foolproof.

Would using certain dice for certain rolls count? I have a nice bright pink D6 I use for rolls I need to roll low…eh it works about 80% of the time.

Every time I change a die to improve my crappy die rolls!

"Don't you touch my Dice!"

Aside from rubbing my dice hand on the bronze statue of Durga, Hindu war goddess, no.

Is animal sacrifice a superstition, a ritual, or both?

raylev312 Oct 2016 12:47 p.m. PST

I think most of us would say "no" but how many of you have switched dice because you had a run of bad luck with the first set?

PJ ONeill12 Oct 2016 12:48 p.m. PST

Not usually, but the correlation between someone calling out "Don't roll snake-eyes" and then snake-eyes are rolled, is too strange in a rational universe.

Robert66612 Oct 2016 12:52 p.m. PST

I think in the very act of rolling dice every wargamer must wish consciously or subconsciously that the result favours him, I suppose that, that could be argued as superstitious.

David Manley12 Oct 2016 1:11 p.m. PST

Only insofar as trying to avoid saying something like "anything but a 1…" before a die roll since inevitably when those words are uttered the die comes up 1

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP12 Oct 2016 1:21 p.m. PST

Of course not. I change out cold dice for a perfectly rational reason I can't remember at the moment. And there is a good solid scientific reason why certain regiments perform better than others which, by the rules, should be identical.

I just don't know what it is.

Gnu200012 Oct 2016 1:24 p.m. PST

Another vote for "anything but a 1" being a jinx

It's a meal plan.

monongahela12 Oct 2016 1:58 p.m. PST

Besides the fact that FallCon dice are cursed, no.

14th NJ Vol12 Oct 2016 3:22 p.m. PST

I change dice like most folks change their shirt. I've been told the dice God's don't like that and I'll be punished. I usually am, my die luck is non-existent.

Weasel12 Oct 2016 4:20 p.m. PST

As a joke sure. New figures shoot worse, the first unit to rout is the one you just painted, switch dice when you have a bad streak and all that.

Henry Martini12 Oct 2016 4:54 p.m. PST

I don't know about superstition, but where dice rolls are concerned there certainly sometimes seem to be mysterious forces at work. A couple of weeks ago I had a very unusual (and successful) evening during which almost every roll of two dice generated at least one six, and the other die would be at least a three. In my last game there was barely a six to be seen, and I was back to my pathetic dice-rolling norm.

Zargon12 Oct 2016 5:01 p.m. PST

The intricate signings with the left hand, the powder of Wipingazi blown to the east wind, the nod to Nod, no I don't think I'm superstitious at all.

cavcrazy12 Oct 2016 5:05 p.m. PST

The superstion I have, is never occupy or attack a church….if I do either of those, I lose

Dice have to be color coordinated with the faction/nation that they are supporting or else that faction/nation are doomed to horrid and unforgiving rolls.

Fat Wally12 Oct 2016 11:39 p.m. PST

I don't know whether superstition is the right word but I refuse to ever change dice in a game. I always believe that the law of averages will win out in the end. Mostly I'm right. If I'm wrong…meh

vtsaogames13 Oct 2016 4:20 a.m. PST

I don't change dice either. My buddies switch after any bad roll.

Stepman313 Oct 2016 7:15 a.m. PST

Maybe more OCD. But my dice all have to match…

Old Wolfman13 Oct 2016 7:17 a.m. PST

I seldom shave in the days before a game or a gaming con. I also tend to wear a gaming con t-shirt(I have at least 4 different ones) and a bandana on my head(also of different colors per day).

Yep. Prefer to use dice that came with Star Warriors. Big Games Workshop dice hate me as do my Alabama and Tennessee dice of the same size. Also have to hold them a certain way and shake in both hands, then drop. I usually get a bad roll but it's even worse when I don't do this.
