Here's a couple of useful illustrations.

The uniform remained pretty much the same throughout the Wars with the shako replacing the Corsehut in about from about 1805 onwards. However, as with the infantry its introduction was neither timely or uniform which would lead to some confusion. The rule of thumb would be that the later you portray the drivers, the more likely that they will have shakos.

von Winterfeldt12 Oct 2016 11:04 p.m. PST

the shako was never worn by train in the Napoleonic period

Oh well, no shakos then. Shame, I like shakos.

See now this is what I am saying, there is something about Austians that are just awkward, any other picture I want from whatever to whatever no problem, Austrian who hardly changed anything MINEFIELD.
I need to send descent pictures to my sculptor so he gets them right, or when I release the figure BAM, someone points out a glaring item that I just couldn't find, but he happens to have the exact uniform sitting in his private museum and its got an extra button on the cuff. God I love Napoleonics.

Artilleryman, thanks for your help, but Its not a site I belong too, so it wont let me enlarge or print.

For information on the Austrian Army I recommend W. J. Rawkins' revised edition of 'The Austro-Hungarian Army 1792-1824, which has just been released: link

It is as comprehensive a work as you are likely to find (it runs to 449 pages) and it includes a section on the artillery train. Best of all it only costs £3.99 GBP (postage is free in the UK and it is available as a CD or digital download).

Lancer, try 'Google Imaging' 'Austrian Artillery Train' and there are some good illustrations in the first few entries. You should be able to save them.

the shako for Train was only introduced for some Train companies for Trial, but in the end they kept the Corsehut

and so many companies have it wrong then……shakos for later train seem widespread.

Somehow, if von W tells us this…….I am inclined to think he is more likely to be right!

Glad I have no Austrian Artillery yet…I would be cursing now

So the Perrys have it correct …. again.
