SESSION 30A: ASSUALT

They don't think that any of the goblins have managed to get over the wall yet but they know that they probably will soon if their attack isn't interrupted.

Not wanting to lose the element of surprise the party quickly shake out into a skirmish line and prepare to open fire with all missiles and magic that they have. They do a quick potion of healing check and confirm that each of the party members is carrying a potion of healing.

SURPRISE ROUND – FIRST BLOOD

• Risandor calculates that the best concentration of goblins are right at the extent of his range to cast a Sleep spell. The goblins will need to make a Will save against a DC of 10 + 1 Spell Lvl + 3 Cha = 14. They have a Will save of -1 and hence will need to roll a 15 or better. They roll 10, 12, 16 and 5 and three fall asleep.
• The four men at arms fire their short bow at the second range increment. Loosing four arrows they hit a goblin in the left shoulder for 4pts of damage, 2/3s wounding him.
• Halee fires at the wounded goblin and hits it in the head, killing it and dealing 5pts of damage.
• Thomas draws and fires but misses.

ROUND 1A – INCOMING

Initiative: Goblins 8, Party 5.

• Having taken their first casualty the goblins need to check morale. They are morale 7 and roll a 7 on 2d6 and will fight on.
• Somewhat confused the goblins refocus their attack away from the chateau and onto the party.
• Five of the goblins advance 30ft and fire their short bows at the party. The first shot is at Penn who is hit in the left leg for 4pts of damage. The second shot is aimed at Uthalin but misses. The third is aimed at Halee and hits her in the left shoulder for 4pts of damage. The fourth round is aimed at Uthalin but misses. The fifth is aimed at Halee but misses.
• The remaining 5 goblins double move towards the party.

Go party go! Kick goblin bum!

I imagine Thomas is feeling a little nervous right about now.
Nothing says you're next than two people beside you having an arrow sticking out of them.

I just know Thomas is having an evolving story and will eventually become the party bada$$…

Threaten 'em with Baby Cord!

A charge can be up to a double move into melee, so it looks like the melee will be upon us the beginning of the next round.

If I might make a suggestion: Use Standard actions first, firing missile weapons at the goblins charging, then MV into the cover of the forest and switch weapons during the MV action (which is allowed.)

Hopefully the edge of the forest gives partial cover from the goblin ranged attacks as we melee. Pair up and maneuver to get flanking bonuses if the opportunity comes up to do so without making yourself vulnerable.

Ris… what do you think? Save remaining spells? I think we can take this lot fairly easily.

I want to hear Ansic and Uthalin's take on this.
They're the most effective in combat.

Yes, we need the front line big hitters to weigh in as they take the brunt of the pain in any fight ….
From Risandor's point of view, we have 5 goblins closing to melee, and 5 at range who are competent, but will soon be firing into melee past their friends, reducing their effectiveness.

Risandor could try to daze one goblin then drop back to the woodline …. but as that would only possibly affect one opponent, it might be better for him to move to the trees and inspire courage so that the group all gets the boost for their attacks.

If the group gets off another five bow shots, we might drop a couple of goblins, meaning 3 of them will face 9 of us in the trees. I like those odds, so saving spells for the other group of goblins seems reasonable.

Of course the casualties might be enough for them to break, allowing us to close on the slave pens and check out the family.

And yes, Thomas and baby Cord are going to be badass … his dazzling display regularly affects the enemy already, what will that be like when he is a few levels up?

Echoco,

Ansic has been quiet for a while. I figure he's probably got a bit on at work or something at the moment so I've just been playing from his characters behavioral description that was provided to me.

Uthalin sends me the odd email but I think he's a bit busy too. So I hear from him about once a week or so.
