I'm painting my first WSS regiment, Swabian Cuirassiers. Grant says they had leather cuirasses. Any idea what colour these might be?

It look strange enough. However leather cuirass color (and a look trough Google Image will confirm it) should be between a reddish cuir and a dark gray.

Thanks Altefritz!

Leather cuirasses sound like an awful lot of work for little practical gain, when the production of steel ones was well established. Could that reference be to buffcoats rather?

Grant does deliberately note they had leather Cuirass. I have no idea what his primary sources are.

Leather cuirasses were lighter than steel. Some people lobbied for them as equipment for Napoleonic light cavalry
